GUT CHECK from the experts, please. X790R Demo Unit for $2500?

What do you think? I have the opportunity to purchase a demo unit with 700ish hours on the lens that is claimed to be in perfect condition for ~$2500. Not sure of the warranty (I'm waiting on an answer), but I wanted to get your opinions first. I was literally about to buy one new today.

Am I nuts to consider it?

If it comes with a warranty I would definitely buy it for that price.

They said that it should come with the remainder of the manufacturer's warranty, but I'm not sure how to verify that. I don't want to fall for "too good to be true" deal, you know? Does that discount ($1500 off new) seem to be on-par for what people have seen for Demo units?

If it truly only has 700 hours on it (FYI, lamps hours counter can be reset in the main menu) and it has a warranty - make sure it's from an authorized dealer - then it would be a nice deal.

It is a good deal, but not in the "too good to be real" category, so I would feel comfortable pulling the trigger.

My "demo" had 29 hours on it and I paid more.

My recently upgraded 20 year old basement theater: 7.1 ch setup with JVC x790r projector; 100" Stewart 16x9 screen, Panasonic 820 UHD player; Marantz AV7704 pre-pro; Marantz MM8077 7 ch Amp; PSA v1811 subwoofer; Atlantic Technology 20 year old speakers

Thanks everyone. I’ll sleep on it and give it some more thought. 700hours on the bulb is a good amount and an unclear warranty makes me pause, but this is the projector model that I want.

Well, if it's a serious seller who knows his product, he can connect the projector to a computer with JVC's software and show you exactly how many hours the projector has runned.

That's a good deal. Not really going to find a projector that good for less than that price.

Where can one get this software? I bought a store demo with supposedly 800 hours, and would like to check its true age.

I thought JVC dealers had access to JVC's service software and could check its total running time. Meanwhile I've been reading other forums and it seems it's not that "easy" to have access to the software and check the running time. Something that on most projectors is accessible through the service menu, and others directly on the main menu, seems in this case to be more complicated. And I can't find a good reason why such information isn't available to the owner of the projector. Anyway, I guess you need to be a certified technician to be able to buy it, and I apologize if I misled anyone into thinking otherwise.

Thanks again for all the help, folks.

I ended up passing on the deal, as I mentioned. I got myself on a couple of lists for one of the last upcoming x790r shipments until I was offered a DLA-RS1000 for sub-$5k. So I went that route. I should have it next week sometime.

I still have a twinge of regret over not getting the x790r, but I think I'm going to be very happy with the Nx5/RS1000 for that price point.
