Sony 1100es vs 695es for $9k

I found a Sony 1100es new for $9k at my local dealer. Has anyone compared the 695es to the 1100es and is it worth purchasing the 1100es over 695?

Thanks in advance.

I have an 1100 but I would probably go for the 695 at that price honestly. The 1100 is a great unit but the 695 has all the latest features. Unless you can demo both and then make your decision.

Hi.
The 695 will have the latest Sony tech for projectors, including:
18Gbps HDMI 2.0 HDCP 2.2
X1 Processor (4K motion flow and better Reality Creation etc).
Newer panel design with higher native contrast.

The 1100 however, is built like a Rolls Royce in comparison, has an auto lens cover (miss those!), will have the most recent HDMI board issued for the 1000 line inside it (HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 but only 4k 50/60hz 8bit capable) although 30hz and below will be 10bit as you would expect.
And then it has THE lens!
It will definitely be superior to the one on the 695 being all glass etc (the lenses on the 295/695/885 are very good but can be a little hit and miss in consistency between units, so if possible view the actual unit you will be buying in any comparison) but how much better is all down to personal tastes and preferences, not to mention seating distance etc.

I would say that overall it will be down to what you value most, the ultimate clarity of the image (there may be very little perceivable difference to you) or having the best processing and viewing options available.

If you mainly watch 4k blurays at native frame rates (24hz) I would venture the 1100 may get the advantage. If you watch a lot of streaming, then the 695 will handle all of that much better with no mucking about to get the picture acceptable. (You may need to invest in an HD Fury or suchlike to overcome any potential HDMI issues that may crop up due to the 1100 being around 5-7 years old tech wise).

One more thing to mention, is that the 695 is a little under 15kg, but the 1100 is about 20kg, possibly a little more.

Enjoy the having the choice and give them a good once over before deciding (if possible) is my advice.

Agree with all the above but would like to add one thing.

The Sony X800 UHD player is THE player to get with the 1100es for UHD /HDR tone mapping.
If all the owners who ditched their 1100es 's back in 2015/16 when SXRD contrastgate hit the fan had actually held on to them until 2017/18 when the X800 finally arrived.....then the 1000/1100es would still be a major player(in terms of ownership) even today.

I have the JVC rs600....one of the highest contrast projectors out there(bested only by the rs620 & rs640) and my 1000es literally destroys it in all areas except contrast....and even there it is very close(by eye).

So assuming that the 1100es that the OP is eying up has no SXRD degradation issues...….and if he pairs it up with the X800 UHD player I think it will outclass the 695es in both rec709 for regular blu rays and should have the edge for UHDs in terms of sharpness.

My 2 cents.

I should add that the 695es may have an advantage over the 1100es in terms of expressing less posterization.

Posterization was the true bane of the earlier 4K natives from Sony (as opposed to contrast loss) IMHO.

So a 695es may be less sharp than the 1100es but have less posterization (which is a distraction)

Sony needs to eradicate this defect from their architecture.

By all accounts even the mighty 5000es is afflicted by it......something that is unacceptable for a 60000$ projector.
