JVC NX-7, X790R in Toronto and Contrast Difference

Does anyone in Toronto area have NX-7 that I can see.
To give a background, I had already placed a blind order for X790R 3 months ago and I am told that there is still no guarantee that I could receive one even in April.
I decided to demo X790R, NX-5 and NX-7. The place I demoed had X790, NX-5 and NX-9 but no NX-7. I was told that NX-9 is very similar to NX-7 in contrast and the prime visible difference was 8K e-shift (Turned off for demo) which I find really hard to believe. After all we are talking more than 2 times the cost with much bigger glass.

From 13' viewing distance on 136" CIH, NX-5 was noticeably sharper (I don't agree with some who say that sharpness difference with e-shift is not noticeable) however looked grayish compared to the X790R and I would pick X790R over NX-5. I can stretch my budget for NX-7, but I would prefer to see it in action rather making a blind order.
If I can get the X790 contrast and native 4K sharpness with NX-7, I will just get the NX-7. I know the contrast numbers for both, but how they are in actual viewing is what really matters to me.
Mine is 126" CIH AT Screen with first row at 12'.

I don't have an NX7 but I am in the GTA with an NX9 and Paladin Lens if you want to see how that looks with these new projectors. I love this combination and had I bought an NX7, I still would have picked up the Paladin Lens. :)

Regards,

Yanki

Thank you Yanki. I saw the NX9 already at the dealer and it was stunning. It is out of my budget and I am trying to get NX7. Did you get a chance to see NX7 before you decided on NX9?

In what scenes did you find the NX5 greyish? The NX7 will have the sharpness of the NX5 but mostly the contrast of the NX9. The NX5 vs NX9 contrast won't be noticeable in most scenes other than very dark scenes. Somethings though. You want to make sure that the firmware is updated past 1.2,brightness on nx5 is -3 or so, and dynamic iris is set to auto for a good demo. Without these settings the black floor is significantly raised on dark content :(

We played John Wick 2 first chase scene which is all dark. Did you mean NX7 vs NX9 contrast won't be noticeable? Because switching between X790, NX7 and NX5 showed visibly lesser contrast for the NX5. Dynamic iris was auto; however I am not sure what the brightness was and the firmware. Here NX7 is twice the cost of X790 and in your opinion is it justified? My use is 100% movies with no preference to any particular genre.

The NX7 is worth 2x the cost *to me*. But a lot depends on your screen size and viewing distance also. How far are you away from what sized screen?

I felt the price was justified too however what I saw was NX9. :) Screen is 126" CIH AT Seymour Screen with first row at 12'.

You're right on the line to being too far back to benefit from native 4K over eshift 4K. I'd want to push forward at least 3 feet. In your case, it may be noticeable but not super impressive noticeable. You may want to just go with the RS540 and save the $.

My theater is structured in a way that I can't move forward anymore and cannot increase the size of the screen either. Now I am leaning more towards X790. Thank you for the feedback!

Abhilash220 already stated that for him, the NX5 was sharper. I believe 13' from 136" is essentially the same as 12' from 126" so he would have the same result at home.

I felt both the NXs were sharper than X790. However considering the current X790 price, I feel it is a bargain and the difference in sharpness is something I can overlook.
Another thing is my dealer confirmed today that I can get X790 end of April(After 3 months since I placed order!!) and there is no ETA for NX7 if I place an order right now.

I believe London Audio has a NX7 if you wanted to drive a few hours to check it out.

I have an X790 on a 100” screen and it’s fantastic. At your screen size i would probably go with a true 4K projector.

I haven’t seen the NX7 but did see the NX9 at JVC service Center in Mississauga and it was awesome. Maybe check with them and see if you can get in for a demo. I believe they had all the newer models as well as the x790.

I was actually thinking of stopping by there sometime soon to ask about the NX5, Sony 295 and X790. Did you buy from London Audio?

All these 3 are available at eastporters in Oakville. Their demo room is really good and I played one of my Blu-rays I carried with me. If you plan to buy either, demo is a must. Many people prefer NX5 over X790, but I preferred the X790.
NX5 is in stock with eastporters and X790 is coming end of this month. And you will probably get the best price from visions, but you may need to wait for a while for the X790. I have also seen in this forum some suggesting that JVC has stopped/stopping X790 production.

Thank you very much. I will be shopping around a bit to try and get the best price I can. I have dealt with Eastporters and London Audio in the past, so I am familiar with them. Visions I have not, but if I can get the best price from them, be it the NX5 or 790, then I would go with them for sure. I actually didn't realize there was a Visions store in London.

Hey Yanki, how do you like the Paladin lens? Does it offer a significant benefit?

Visions just opened up in London not too long ago and I was just in their yesterday and they have pretty wide selection of electronics and will beat anyone's price. I was talking with one of their installers and he was a really nice guy and very informative.
