All depends on the budget also. I would look into the jvc nx5 or nx7

What is your budget?
What size and aspect screen?
What fabric in your screen?
What is your room like?

@acho7 , I have my rom close to yours. I started with a Optoma, which was decent(RBE, could not take it). The n went to Sony 40 ES, great in that space for 1080P. I then went to JVC RS420, and once I got it calibrated, and darkened the room, the picture got that much better. I would work with @Mike Garrett , as he can work with you to give you great advise, and maybe score a deal too. If you think that you may do more 4K viewing, then there are plenty of options, if 1080P, then you could score a great projector well below $1K!

Aren't you in the wrong forum then? Should be posting in the $3000 or under forum I'd think. It's a different crowd. Sorry, not trying to be a jerk. This was a serious comment. I only opened this thread cause I saws you were in the 3000+ forum so figured I'd chime in but when I saw your budget realized this was not a thread for me to participate etc.

Video: JVC RS4500 135" screen in pure black room no light, htpc nvidia 1080ti.
Audio: Anthem mrx720 running 7.1.4, McIntosh MC-303, MC-152, B&W 802d3 LR, B&W HTM1D3 center, B&W 805d3 surround, B&W 702S2 rear, B&W 706s2 x 4 shelf mounted for atmos, 2 sub arrays both infinite baffle: 4x15 fi audio running on behringer ep4000 + 4x12 fi audio running on 2nd ep4000.

Good point. As it turns out, I could be either side of 3K. Sorry for my miscommunication.

Thanks for the input. I'll try and connect with Mike.

I meant is your room light controlled, dark surfaces or did you have lots of ambient light. Anyway, for less than 3k, I would look at the Epson 5050 or a B-stock Sony/JVC. If you want new, the Epson 5050 would be your best choice. Nice performing projector for the money.

OK, I'm sold on the Epson 5050UB. What ceiling mount to use?

My first choice would be the Chief RPM with Epson custom plate.

Thanks for all the help on this. One last item: My old 8500UB has component video cable inputs. The 5050UB does not accept these. Can I use a converter to HDMI with my current cables or do I need to run a new HDMI cable between my receiver and the new projector?

The Epson is capable of accepting a 4K/60FPS signal. You will need a new 4K/60FPS capable HDMI cable. If your cable length needs to be over 25 ft I would suggest a Fiber Optic HDMI cable. Most cables of that length are directional so they will be labeled source and display.
