Upgrade for JVC RS4810

I have gotten the urge to upgrade. But reading through the forums is making me second guess everything.

I currently have a completly light controlled room throwing a 110" image from 13 feet away using a white on black spandex screen.

My plan was to upgrade to a JVC X550R for the improvement in E-shift and ability for HDR. With my RS4810 being calibrated by Chad B and having a greater native contrast than the X550R will I even notice a difference?

If the X550R isn't an upgrade I'd be interested in a new projector for around the $1200 mark in the classifieds

The x550R will be a decent upgrade in terms of brightness for sure. But contrast it may not be. If you're going used, I'd look for an RS500 / X750R, RS520 / x790R, RS540 / x790R or better. These are all going here on this site for under $2000 used I believe. The step up from the RS4810 to the RS500 is really dramatic in my opinion as it both majorly increases contrast and at the same time increases brightness.

Though I would love to get an RS500 it is definitely out of my budget. Should I simply keep the RS4810 and upgrade to the X700 series later down the line?

Not X700, X750. I think if you are patient you can find an X750 / RS500 used around $1500. Is that out of your budget? Did you include the resale of your RS4810 as part of our budget?

Resale value was included with the budget. So the X750 is out of the budget.

Would it be an upgrade to a higher end projector in the E-shift 3 lineup be worth it? Say X700 or X900? That way I am getting the increase in native contrast at least and E-shift.

I owned an RS4810 for almost three years. Later moved to an RS4910, RS500, and RS440.

If you own the RS4810, I don't think it's worth going to the RS4910 or a 2014 year model. Go to an RS4XX or RS5XX.
