It appears the difference is the CDROM bezel bay.

This is a good image of what the GD05 looks like with the CDROM face.

What does the GD04 look like with a 5.25" optical drive and how does it function through the bezel?

I don't understand the differences. I've always had a full 5.25" bay on my desktop. The GD04 looks more subtle, which I prefer. Just not sure how it really looks and functions.

Thanks,
Jake

Here's a picture I found on the internet, although I don't think this person has it lined up properly. You can adjust the location of the drive so that the adhesive metal plate is flush with the case. I chose the 04 and am glad I did. The tray works just fine moving in and out, and the metal cover on mine is flush to the front. Obviously you can see that there is a an opening, but it's more subtle in my view than the 05.

The switches and ports are also in different locations. The internals are identical.

GD05

GD04

I've used the 04 also and I like the small cover on the drive.

I just left the trim panel for the dvd door off, it looks fine.
