Darn it, I said it on another forum but I forgot to here. Frontier's router is out of the picture. I'm using my own Sophos UTM 9 setup, which worked at my last house.

Since you mentioned it, UTM does not support PnP, everything is manual.

I don't know what could have changed then. Are you using the same DNS server?

I don't know anything about your Sophos, or how you configured it, but did the IP addresses change for your various connected devices when you moved everything? If so, I wonder if this is your issue?

Nope, everything is exactly the same. Nothing changed. Keep in mind that my other ports to other web applications on this server are working just fine. It's a Plex specific issue.

So the only thing that has changed is your public IP address. You could try going to the Plex website at plex.tv and sign out of your account, then sign back in, then sign out of your Plex server then sign back in again.

No change. I guess I'll have to break out Wireshark soon.

Maybe Frontier is blocking traffic to that port? You can check to see if it is open at canyouseeme.org or you can do a custom port scan at GRC Shields Up to see if the external port is open.

Sorry, I forgot you already mentioned that. I'm running out of ideas but I'm still curious what path Wireshark will lead you down.

Make sure you don't have a DNS rebinding issue. For me, I saw the same symptoms as you until I fixed this within pfSense. I'm imagining your UTM is likely causing a similar issue.

https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/art...7#dnsrebinding

I did a quick search on "Sophos UTM DNS rebinding" and found a few hits that looked promising, but I just don't know enough about the solution to know what would/wouldn't work.

This is quite likely the issue for a few reasons. I really didn't think it would affect anything, but it could be that it is. I am also running on an AD domain here, and as such I have an internal Windows Server acting as DNS server for the domain. I am not only going to have to look at this rebinding issue, but also I am probably going to have to make some entries for my internal domain's DNS configuration to point some stuff locally. Thank you for bringing this up, because it was certainly not on my radar for things to investigate as a solution.

I used to run pfSense, but I was having issues with my work's VoIP solution fading in and out, and I wanted to do some geolocation blocking, since nobody from China, Russia, Croatia, North Korea, etc. needs to have access to any of my resources.

AND.... IT'S FIXED!

I found a misconfiguration on Sophos where it was configured to be a DNS resolver. This is supposed to be turned off when using an internal DNS, as stated in their directions on the DNS configuration page:
  • Networks listed here are allowed to use the system as a recursive DNS resolver. You will typically specify your internal networks here. If you already run an internal DNS server (for example as part of Active Directory), you should leave this setting empty.

Also, I found that I had not reconfigured the DNS on the Plex server after my move to the new house. I had turned the DNS to directly access OpenDNS while I had the server running in my RV, I had the VM for the AD server shut down to save power and noise, and forgot to reconfigure it back to point to the AD for DNS when I got everything back up and running.

I don't know which fixed the issue, but at this point I don't really care. Thank you very much for posting this solution, because like I said I would have never looked at DNS as the problem or the solution.

plex pass?

ok. after perusing 1000 posts to this thread i still have a question... what is plex pass for?

i have plex server on my win7 pc and use it to watch downloaded movies and shows on my home theater with the roku app. i also have hulu commercial free and netflix on roku3. along with many roku apps for watching pbs, comedy channel, cnn, nowhereman, etc... i live in metro detroit and get 38 ota channels with an attic mounted antenna. none of which i watch because i can't stand watching commercials and i don't watch sports

i've never had cable tv but was an early adopter of all video formats starting with a 12'' disc player in 1982 progressing to roku when the only thing it was good for was watching netflix. rarely use the blueray player anymore. currently have 100mbps cable internet.

so again, what is plex pass? my research says it's mostly for watching and dvr of ota tv.

i don't get it.

totally worthless item- my tv has a digital tuner that i never use

Photo Albums New Organization freak? Plex gives you the ability to create beautiful Photo Albums so you can easily customize your own galleries of precious memories.

i don't watch ota tv

i have 7gb of rock, blues and jazz mp3 and mostly listen to commercial free internet radio

Cloud Sync Sync content from your library to supported cloud storage providers to enjoy even if your server is offline.
worthless as my pc is always on

Audio Fingerprinting Manage your music with song identification via audio fingerprinting, get world-class album reviews and artist bios, as well as the best cover art available.
why would anyone want this?

Lyrics See timed lyrics to your favorite songs when available.
again why?

Mood Mix Find tracks in your collection based on mood to help you wake up, wind down, and everything in between.
again why?

Plex Mix Kick off playback of similar tracks from your collection at any time — it’s like your own personal radio station.
again why oh why? don't most music players have a random button?

again why?

Multiple Users Create customized, managed accounts, and make user switching fast and easy with Plex Home.

again why? no porn on my server

Trailers and Extras Automatically see high quality movie trailers, cast interviews, and other extras for movies in your library.

i already get 5 emails a week from plex, why would i want more spam???

Early Access and Free Apps Be the first to get exclusive access to new features and enjoy awesome premium ones. Also, get mobile apps without having to pay the unlock fee (iOS, Android, and Windows apps require a one-time unlock fee for full playback).

i marked everything in green that i would never use and left my comments in red
the free plex does everything i need, i never watch commercials, only to pay extra not to watch commercials? plus to watch these commercials i need to buy a tv tuner for my pc? really? wouldn't any tv tuner for a pc have a dvr feature?

Nope, it's not worth it. Unless you want the extras then it is worth it.

FWIW I bought a lifetime Plex Pass in 2013 for $75 and I don't regret it. I also know people that use Plex without a Plex Pass and they are happy too.

I'm trying to setup Plex on my unRAID server so I can connect to my Nvidia Shield. The Plex Docker is installed in unRAID and appears to be running, but I'm not actually sure how to verify that. When I connect with Plex on the Shield I can see only three of the five shares I have configured with Plex on the server. If I try to play any of the media it says it's unavailable. When I connect to the Plex website it can't find my server at all. It's not listed under the Devices and it just keeps searching for the server. I've been searching for answers but the amount of info is overwhelming and I have no clue where to even start.

This is driving me nuts. I'm following tutorials I found online for installing and configuring the Plex Docker on my server, but when I connect to the Plex WebUI it can't find any servers.

Which docker did you install?
When you left click on the the green arrow on the unraid plex docker do you get the 6 options? One of which is WebUI, click on it should bring you into the typical plex server interface.
I'm new to unraid.... but I can try to help as I am running Plex server on it also
The unraid forums have some really helpful people.... they just helped me with a parity issue due to hardware

Have you updated the Docker? When you bring up the WebUI does the server properties show you are connected?

Yes, I get the options. I select the WebUI option and it takes me to the Plex website, but it can never find my server. I check the Devices tab under Settings and it only shows two Plex Web (Firefox) items.

The Plex Docker is the latest version. There's no server shown so nothing is connected.

Uninstall and reinstall. The Docker pretty much just works. The only room for error is if you have a port conflict with another Docker.

Been there and done that. Still no joy. I posted some screen shots while you guys were posting your responses. When I install the docker I only see the option for the limetech Plex docker under the Add Container option under the Docker tab. I have the Community Applications app installed and I can find the other Plex dockers. I'm just not sure how to install them from there.

Uninstall your current Docker. Click on Apps in the unRAID toolbar (this is Community Applications). Search for Plex. If you have Plex Pass select one of the Plex Pass Dockers. If not then pick the "linuxserver" version of Plex (most votes). The Limetech one is probably old and not well maintained.

If you can't get it installed from Community Applications then stop troubleshooting Plex and get CA working. That's where the goldmine is for Dockers and Plugins.

I just did that and now the Plex WebUI can find my server. What's weird is that when I had the old docker installed and searched for Plex apps I only got two choices. With the docker uninstalled I got a lot of selections to choose from. I chose the linuxserver option and it seems to be working now. I still have to set up the shares in Plex and then see if my Shield can find it. Thanks for the help.

I got Plex setup on my server and let it run all night to build the libraries in the WebUI. The server is up and running with Plex but my Shield says the server is offline. I've rebooted the server and the Shield and signed back into the Plex WebUI but the Shield still doesn't acknowledge the server as being online. The app is definitely running on the server so I'm stuck. The Plex app on the Shield says it requires version 0.9.7.13 or higher, but I can't seem to locate which version I have installed. I assume it's the latest version of the linuxserver.io docker since I downloaded it from the Community Applications page. The Docker tab in unRAID says the app is up-to-date and is the latest. The WebUI sees my server and shows the Shield as being an available player. I can access and play media from the server via the WebUI on my desktop PC.

Here's a screen shot of the Plex Docker log. I'm wondering if the IPv6 error is causing the issue.

Maybe the Shield is looking for a Plex server running directly on the Shield?

In the Web UI click settings, then click on server. It should show you the installed version and if there are any updates available. You could also go to settings -> devices and it will list the servers and players associated with your account.

The version is 1.10.1.4602 and is the latest. The Shield sees the unRAID server, but it shows it as being offline even though it is up and running. The only things that are showing up under the Devices tab are the server and three instances of the Firefox Plex Web. If I click on the icon at the top of the page (2nd from the right) is shows the SHIELD Android TV as a device being broadcast to (i.e., available player). The server and the Shield appear to be seeing each other, but the Shield can't detect the server as being online. I've posted this over at the linuxserver.io support thread in the limetech forums so I'm hoping someone there might know the answer if I can't get it here.
