Has anybody have any experience with this card. It is a 7.1 DD EX card supposedly. I cant find anybody that has them for sale or any info other than that on the Hercules site. I like the optical out and 7.1 for only 50 bucks. Thanks.

Check out the measurements of the center channel - not pretty...

There's also a new 6.1 GameTheater card coming soon--haven't seen any reviews of it yet, though.

I picked it up at CompUSA and it works fine. Beware that you can either play your digital AC3 sources (PowerDVD) *or* your wave sources (i.e. WinAmp) at a time. You can change the settings, but it requires a reboot. That doesn't affect me since my MB has a builtin soundcard, which I run into the same inputs on my receiver. However, others are not happy with this limitation.

Remember that these measurements are using the 3 outputs on the back of the card and not the optical out. For our htpc uses most of us will be using (hopefully) the optical out to connect to our receiver/processor. The card works fine for being a 50 dollar item. I also got mine at compusa...

Can you compare the optical out with an SB Live or Audigy?

Thanks,

J Jay,

I realize that and I agree that the card is most likely adequate for SPDIF out, but cheapskate did mention he was interested in the 7.1, so I just pointed out that there may be quality issues based on the TH review.

Good point--I stand corrected :)
