I myself dont use netflix, or any other app, but did buy a 4k TV and think I will be using those features in the future.
I have noticed that when I return to the main SPMC screen from watching a movie, it takes a half a second or so to load the "suggestions". I also noticed a tiny bit of stutter when I first start some video clips (not all). Other than that, it's been fast and snappy.
That being said, I have decided to return the Shield. As I mentioned before, for me, for the foreseeable future, it would pretty much just be a 1080p SPMC box which I have covered with the Chromebox+Kodi, but the deciding factor for me was the Shield's performance with my IR universal remote.
I use a URC MX-700 (have been for going on 15 years). I found the IR hex codes online and set up the MX-700 last night. Not only are there a few missing commands that I have with the CB+Kodi+Media Center Remote
, the reaction time is severely lacking...getting lots of button presses with no reaction and some "double presses", it's just too erratic for me. The CB is much more responsive to IR.
I am NOT using the game controller as a remote. The reason I have a universal remote is for it to be...well...universal (that means controlling ALL of my devices).
I realize that one day, I will have to give up my all-time favorite remote and move away from IR, but until that day comes, you'll have to pry my MX-700 from my cold, dead hands.
