I wouldn't worry too much about not seeing guide data that far out. A lot of channels don't get data that far in advance. I used to have mine set for 21 days, but even though shows would appear in my scheduled recording list, there was no info available until it approached the 14-day window. I ended up changing it back to 14 days because there wasn't much useful data available beyond that point.

It's nice to be able to set up new series 21 days out instead of 14 days. I can throw away the post-it notes stuck to my monitor a whole week sooner. I'm currently waiting for Good Girls (2/26) and Champions (3/8) to show up in the guide so I can schedule them.

Have you tried the Premiere search feature that was added with EPG123? Select the option to add a new recording and select the Search function instead of the guide to find your show. Select the Premieres option from the list. It will list every new show or season premiere that's upcoming. Most of the time shows will be listed in the Premieres list before they show up in the guide. I check through it about once a week to see what new shows are coming up.

The forum software is glitching again. I had to change my user settings to view 100 posts per page to see the latest replies in this thread.

Those two shows aren't listed in the premieres yet but thanks anyway.

I find it more reliable but prefer the detail level of Rovi.
I am not able to load the TV schedule. There seems to be a problem downloading the schedule and making it available to media center.

I have added windows media center to windows 10. I can view live TV

windows media center finds my HDHR3 tuners and finds the available stations

I have not been able to get epg123 client to run

epg123 configure is running

I keep getting a "no task is scheduled to run" error message.

I don't know if we have any experts on EPG123 here. Perhaps one will chime in soon.

But if not, you could try joining The Green Button and posting your problem at their EPG123 thread: http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/viewforum.php?f=99. Plenty of folks there who could help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have registered for the Green Button Forum and found another post with the same problem from yesterday. I posted the text of #815 on the Green Button EPG123 Windows 10 forum. Now I am waiting to see if there is a response.

I got much help from garyan2 on the green button forum. The problem seemed to be installing the working version of Windows Media Center v8.8.1 for epg123. There are still some OTA programs I want to record so I can watch a netflix disc and return it and then be able to see my programs.

For the 1000th time since those morons took control of the guide data I've again had all my channel numbers get randomly mixed up.

THAT DOES IT: How the hell do I get that program that solves the issue for a few dollars a month and please tell me it's available to Canadians.

BTW, can we not take legal action against the absurd incompetence of this company? I know their "service" is "free", but it's not really free when it makes TV watching a living hell.

I can't understand why anyone that still uses WMC is also not using EPG123. You never have to deal with outages and the guide data is far superior than the crap you get from Rovi. Pony up the $25 annual fee for Schedules Direct and install EPG123. It will be the best $25 you ever spent on your TV.

Meh... Another paid service. What happened to cord cutting being cheaper? I know there have always been advantages to htpcs but any more with all the things I need to subscribe to get full functionality sometimes I think it'd be cheaper just to go back to an STB and cable service.

Well, sometimes free isn't necessarily better. It all depends on what you want to watch and what service provides it. I love my HTPC and the programming I can access with it. I also get Netflix and shows from Amazon (free with my Amazon Prime subscription) using my Shield. I signed a new contract with Verizon FIOS a while back and they gave me free HBO for two years and I'm actually paying less for cable now than I was before. I pay about $80/month for the Fios TV Ultimate HD package plus $10 for two cablecard rentals. Internet and phone plus miscellaneous fees and taxes raise it to about $157. They also bumped up my internet speed at no extra charge. $25 a year for a Schedules Direct subscription isn't going to break anyone's bank and it enhances my HTPC experience without worrying about guide data shortages. EPG123 allows me to completely cut the cord with Microsoft and Rovi and gives me better guide data in the process.

If you think 50 cents a week for Schedules Direct costs too much then you better be sitting down when you open that first cable bill.

Let's add this up.. I have TV's in 7 locations.

When I had Charter Spectrum it was going to be $20 a month for each 4 TV's DVR Fees (GuideService). That's $40 right there PLUS $7 a STB for another $49. Schedules Direct? $2 a month.. plus another $4 a minth for CableCARD rental. That's $89 vs $6 EVERY SINGLE MONTH.

WMC's guide went to crap a few years ago and I'm more than willing to pay for a better guide that I can also use in Emby.

I am now switching to OTA and streaming to pick up some of the favorite cable content but still using SchedulesDirect with Emby and epg123 in WMC because it is superior.

Seems I ruffled some feathers. Maybe I was going a bit far there. I guess my point was just that everyone wants a sub fee these days and the content is all broken up across many platforms.
Netflix, Hulu, Emby premiere, Plex pass etc.

The hunt for the covers it all solution may never come to fruition.

Of course everyone wants a sub fee... All those cord cutters are a new revenue source with all the money they are saving In cable fees.

I look at it this way. If I can get a better TV experience by paying just a little extra then I'm OK with that. I've been a WMC convert for many years. When Ceton informed me of upcoming release of their InfiniTV4 and were accepting pre-orders I jumped on it literally within seconds after reading the email. I paid over $400 with shipping for a 1st generation cablecard tuner and it was one of the best purchases I ever made for my HTPC. I don't usually jump on new technology and tend to let it simmer for a while to get the bugs out and wait until the price drops. I never hesitated with the InfiniTV4. I have thoroughly enjoyed using WMC and find it to be a competent and reliable DVR app and the only way to record DRM content other than using a Tivo or my provider's DVR. You can get the same programs via streaming services, but I believe you usually have to pay extra to stream them.

On several occasions in the past, Microsoft dropped the ball and almost had everyone run out of guide data. Anyone that uses WMC knows that Microsoft can pull the plug on providing guide data at any time. It says so in the agreement you click on when you set up WMC. At a later date Microsoft decided to switch their guide data provider from Tribune Media to Rovi, which has proven to be a less than satisfactory move for WMC users. This directly resulted in SiliconDust developing their own DVR app so we could get away from Microsoft and Rovi. Unfortunately, the SD DVR app has been plagued with broken promises and a horrible UI that is completely non-intuitive and has avoided the use of a grid-style program guide that everyone on the planet has become used to seeing on any TV device that provides such data. And guess what? If you want guide data when the app is officially released you will have to pay $25 a year for it, same as Schedules Direct.

Say what you want about WMC, but it just plain works. There's a lot of competition out their for your entertainment dollar. You have all kinds of streaming services, satellite providers, cable providers, internet programming, and so on. The term "cord cutting" has always been a bit of a misnomer unless all you want to do is watch OTA TV. The term just implies that you have dropped your cable provider as a source of TV programming and now use other sources for that media. Any other source of TV will require an internet connection so you're still attached to a provider with a cable so, in reality, you've never really cut the cord. You've just changed the way you use the one that's already coming into your house.

Is there an app (with EPG123) so that I can schedule recordings when I am out of town?

I don't know if there's a way you can do that with WMC. I know you can do that with Tivo. I used to be able to do that with BeyondTV.

It's been quite a while since I last used it, but I think I used to do this with Remote Potato.

I think Ceton's old My Media Center app does the same thing, if you can find it.

Do you mean Ceton's My Media Center app? If so, using EPG123 to import your guide data won't break it.
