I had great luck with Emby. Wish they had a TiVo app.

Question NextPVR vs WMC...

Getting Guide Data back on my Vista WMC looks like more of a PITA than it's worth so I've been considering NextPVR for a while now. It creates .TS files, right? So I can use my Media Streamers (Patriot Box Office, WD Live Plus, Seagate FAT+) like I've been using with my Hauppauge PVR-1212 with TitanTV on a laptop.

Thumbs up Refurb TiVo Roamio Basic Is A Nice Change...

For $300, a refurb Roamio Basic w/Lifetime turned out to be a wise choice for me!

I went from a TiVo Series 1 w/Lifetime to four ReplayTV 5XXXs w/Lifetime to Vista WMC with 2 SiliconDust HDHR3s to the Roamio Basic - ah, so simple now...

But, since I already have all the HTPC hardware, after my surgery and length recovery (I'm *REALLY* a Couch Potato now!), I can add 4 more tuners for OTA with NextPVR.

OK, stupid Q, but I've got 3 HTPC computers hardwired to a gigabit switch, running MCE with HDHR. I just bought a Roamio OTA. Can I still use MCE to watch shows recorded by the Roamio, or do I need to do either stream or mini's of the Tivo variety? since all are hardwired, I thought i could access with something like pyTivo, but would rather stay with MCE if possible, since family is already trained on that :-)

thanx,
Joel

pyTivo copies/streams files to/from TiVo. You can probably get it to do what you want. I use it for the opposite of what you're wanting, to watch wtv files on TiVo.

Now I've been reading that some are moving from Kodi to Emby or JRiver. Or, of course, Tivo. I guess ChannelMaster DVR+ is another option but I don't want to buy new hardware when my HTPC is still great.
Question can you record live tv with Kodi?

No, you need a back end system for the DVR function, i.e. WMC, NextPVR, etc.

I'm going to guess the main HTPC can't run this and using a extender (Linksys DM2100) in another room right? I'm hesitant on messing with the main HTPC right now since it's strictly for TV the most I did to it 2 days ago was switch out the single 120GB drive to a 120GB SSD and added a 2 TB recording drive.

I am fine with WMC going away but it's the only HTPC software I know that is DRM compatible. Does anyone know of another software that will support DRM recordings?

I come to this forum off and on, and it reminds me that HTPCs are dead...

C'mon! We need some innovation in this space!
