What can madVR do?

madVR Features:

  • High-quality chroma upscaling and image scaling (Lanczos, Jinc, super-xbr, Reconstruction, NGU, etc.);
  • High bit-depth processing (32-bits per component) to reduce color errors and color banding;
  • Error diffusion dithering to bit depths of 10-bits or less;
  • High-quality HDR tone mapping and HDR10 passthrough;
  • Post-process image sharpening, debanding, deringing, deblocking and denoising;
  • 3D LUT gamut & transfer function correction for display calibration;
  • MPEG4-MVC 3D support;
  • Smooth motion playback without 3:2 pulldown judder, even at 60Hz;
  • Forced film mode turns 60i movies into perfect 24p;
  • Very reliable playback using automatic fullscreen exclusive mode;
  • Bypasses graphics card's video algorithms;
  • All work is done via GPU shaders;
  • No shortcuts — highest quality has priority over anything else.

Note: This software is currently under development and the list of available features can change regularly as it heads towards a distant v1.0 release.

What Platforms does madVR Support?

As DirectShow software, madVR is compatible with Windows operating systems (Windows XP and newer).

  • Requires a GPU with full D3D9 / PS3.0 hardware support.

HCFR doesn't support 3DLUT creation. It's for manual calibration but one can use it to measure and verify a 3DLUT created by ArgyllCMS + dispcalGUI. Also ArgyllCMS is with a lower case l not an upper case I. ;)

I am confused by the title of Argy11CMS. Is it two ones "11," two L's "ll," or two I's "II?"

It's ArgyllCMS or Argyll CMS, according to Graeme's website. So, that's two lowercase "L".

Great idea starting this thread Onkyoman! Too many times is there relevant support information spread out among the players' support thread that could be relevant to all players that incorporate madVR.

Subscribed! :)

Somehow this needs to make it into the sticky sticky thread up top.

With the recent addition of 3D, JRiver with built in Madvr is my paradise.

My Htpc does everything I was hoping including using a 3DLUT file to tune my projector picture to perfection.

Previously I had a chromebox with openelec/Kodi. But no 3D, no 3DLUT and it choked on my VC1 titles also.

What container are you using for those 3D files? Is it playing Frame Packed, SBS or T&B 3D? Thanks.

Apparently Madvr only supports the direct rips that MakeMKV makes. Which is frame packed 3D. This is good for me because SBS or T&B would result in lower quality.

This 3D support is very recent also... but It totally works awesome for me. I was using Stereoscopic Player before but MadVR does better with it.

I'm reading things here but am not currently using KODI nor a member of that forum so I'm hoping for a little bit of assistance over here on AVS.

Where to get LAV 0.68.0? I only see 0.67.0 on GitHub.

Also, I'm running 64bit MPC-HC which has LAV 0.64.0 built in and I notice that my version of the 32bit MPC-HC has LAV 0.65.0 built in.

I'm running MPC-HC 1.7.10 for both AFAIK.

Thanks..

I think Warner/Onkyoman made a typo in the Kodi thread. We're currently at 0.67.0-76 (http://files.1f0.de/lavf/nightly/). Sounds like you're not running the latest MPC-HC version either. You can find those here: https://nightly.mpc-hc.org/. The nightly releases have been a little slow lately, but they always include the latest available nightly of LAV at the time. Even with an older version of MPC-HC you can still manually update the LAV Filters, though.

Thank you!

I can put in the current LAV as an external filter in MPC-HC. Do you know what version of LAV is in nightly MPC-HC?

Not off the top of my head, but once you install the latest MPC-HC, just go to "About" in the menu, and it will tell you the version. You don't even have to setup LAV as external filters. You can just drag and drop the necessary files from the LAV install folder to the MPC-HC install folder.

Easy as that.. basically just overwrite the built in LAV with the nightly. I'll give it a go! Thanks!

Yes, but I know you're trying to get everything going for 3D, so you also need to download the extra 3D stuff for LAV. Make sure you check that extra box in the installer. I can only assume that you can just copy the extra files to the MPC-HC filters folder as well, but I have no experience with those. Give it a shot and report back.

Is this in MPC-HC x64 or x86?

BTW, I guess I need to read that thread a little more to see what "extra" things to which you refer..

The nightly folder has both x86 and x64, so make sure you get the right one, or both. I usually get the zipped ones, not the executables, but it doesn't make a difference. Since madshi and nev implemented 3D playback, LAV now has an extra option to install the necessary files for that. By default, that is unchecked.

Shall I download the zip from here?

I just downloaded the 7z file from here dated 1/31/2016. I think that is what I need.

That's MPC-HC 7.10.101 which has 0.67.0.70 LAV included. Is 0.67.0.76 necessary for 3D playback?

Forgot to tell you, the included version of LAV does not have the 3D files, so you will have to install LAV separately anyway.

Onkyoman 02-09-2016 09:19 PM

LAV Filters 0.68 hasn't been released yet. I typed that in anticipation of its release, which I thought might be soon. The nightly builds are a work-in-progress version of 0.68, I'm assuming.

The madVR content from two guides has been combined into one. It is still in the Kodi forums, for now. One day I might move it here, but not until DSPlayer is officially dead.

Onkyoman 02-09-2016 09:28 PM

If the instructions for 3D playback lead you astray, tell me about it. I don't know if I'll ever get a chance to test 3D myself. I don't own any 3D discs at the moment and just recently found an unused pair of active 3D glasses.

I tried to download a frame-packed disc, but couldn't find any MKVs.

I will read through the rest of your Kodi Guide today but does this play well with LiveTV using WMC. I'm stuck there with a CableCARD tuner and CCI Protected content..

I downloaded the 0.67.0.76 LAV Filters and it is going to install in the x86 Program Files Folder. Do I need the x86 version of MC-HC?

I run the x86 version of MPC-HC and it works with 0.67.0.076 LAV x86. So, if MPC-HC x64 doesn't work go to MPC-HC x86.

I looked at the Kodi Guide and for MPC-HC it refers back to MINDBOMB's great guide. I guess my question is if installing the external filters will have such a high merit that I'll have playback issues with LiveTV in WMC.. On my previous i3 Clarkdale I ran into this issue back in 2010 0r 2011 but once LAV was released and I started using it externally in MPC-HC (wasn't built-in back then) I didn't have issues with LiveTV. I should just go with that and install it. I'll make a restore point first..

dwaleke 02-10-2016 08:34 AM

IIRC WMC does not respect the merit value. It will always try to use it's built-in decoders for livetv.

It's been awhile though. Haven't used WMC in years.

This was way back when I was first getting my first HTPC set up. I was using Shark007 pack and it borked it. He has long since fixed his pack so that it plays nice with WMC and LiveTV. I see on his site that he's up to date with the nightlies so I may go that route and see how it works for emby on Echo extenders these days.. I suspect not much has changed there though.

The madVR portion is not a Kodi guide anymore. It deals exclusively with the madVR control panel.
