didn't you bring up powerdvd?
yes i did.
Quote:
why?
you brought netflix 4K HDR up and i know how the situation is for powerdvd as a reverence.
Quote:
if this is a madvr thread?
what has netflix 4D HDR to do with madVR good question isn't it.
Quote:
anyway, i could switch to intel's igpu for powerdvd playback if i wanted, no?
i'm not sure to be honest if that's enough or if the nvidia gpu needs to be disabled.
Quote:
could i do that with the ryzen?
nope.

and now we are back to here:
Quote:
but i don't want to argue about that.
because this was simply determent to happen...

i will now explain the "chipset issue" there was none BTW.
AMD failed one old instruction superseeded instruction that results with a wrong number.
it's a random function and there are at least two fixes for this. the chipset driver or a bios update.
so because this happen AMD has the bad chipset and intel is solid?
this is a microcode update they happen all the time.
ever heard of spectre, meltdown and stuff like this ? how are they fixed?
so anyway here you have it.

Is there a MadVR compatible 4K Blu-ray software player?

Currently I have to rip a movie before I can play it back - wondering if there is a way to playback with MadVR goodness without the 45 minutes of wait for Ripping the drive?

If you use The software Redfox AnyDVD HD then you can play your UHD BluRay in any player such as MPC-HC with madVR straight from the disc.

My son had an extra PC laying around, so he gave it to me. Does this look like it would work good with MadVR if I get a better GPU, and use my TB hdd that I have all my movies on?

As long as the case supports a full height GPU. Some of those small cases do not. I believe that GT 1030 will allow HDR passthrough with MadVR, someone can correct me there.

The cpu is pretty low power but in doesn't get used much in madvr.

From page 1 out of the recommended Nvidia/AMD GPUs, does anyone know which support 3D MKV MVC file playback over HDMI?

"all" AMD cards can do 3D.
no nvidia card can do 3D with new driver they removed support.
the older driver have known issues mostly with HDR but the 1000 series can still do it and some 2000 series cards no super version and the normal version are often discontinued.

Hi guys/gals, currently building a new PC to use MadVR for upscaling to 4K and HDR. I will also have an Atmos setup (7.1.4) using my Denon 6300H and be using a projector (Epson TW9400).

However, I am also keen to be able to continue playing 3D Remuxes.

But I am reading that their are issues with some GPU's to do this.

So with this in mind, what GPU would everyone recommend for both 3D and MadVR?

Also, would everyone recommend Ryzen or Intel? Or is one still prerferable over the other? This setup won't be used for games. Media playback only.

Maybe get a powerful nVidia GPU for madVR and a cheap simple AMD GPU for 3D?

Ideally I don't want 2 htpcs. Too much space and noise. Is there no way I can have 3d and good madvr up scaling in one box?

I was thinking he meant in the same machine? You would have to swap the HDMI cable to change between the two (or maybe there is a more elegant way).

Really? I have to be honest. I never thought you could have two completely different gpus in the same setup. Also what gpu does everyone currently recommend for upscaling via madvr? Is a 2060 enough or is the 5700xt a better choice?

Nvidia is pretty much universally recommended. It is what Madshi uses and I believe primarily develops for. A 2060 is probably "good enough" for most applications. But there is currently not a GPU that can utilize all of madvr's features totally maxed out.

This will work great if you get a decent GPU.

it depends what you understand as a good GPU.

i can't identify the PSU that's used in that case but 120 watt GPU should work fine.
i personally run a 5700 Xt with a very good 400 watt PSU.
even if that's a 450 watt PSU in that system i wouldn't try that GPU in that PSU.

Only issue I can see is you might be a bit limited on space for a GPU, be sure to measure before buying one.

You can put as many GPUs in a machine as you have PCIe slots for.

You could get like a $50 AMD GPU for 3D only. And you could use an HDMI switch to switch between GPUs if you don't want to switch cables. OR connect both GPUs into your AVR if you have spare inputs etc.

Tha k you for your help I had no idea. I assumed it would cause a tonne of compability issues and bugs. Learn something new every day.

Regarding the main gpu. If I had to choose between and 1070 or a 2060 for madvr. Which one would be best?

Get a 2060S, more frames and much better rendering times. Plus it's a current model.

Between those two a 2060, which is more comparable to a 1080.

Can anyone send me any kind of guide for using two different gpus and how this would be set up? (does any article like this exist?)

Also (sorry for all the questions!) can anyone recommend a cpu/mobo combo to pair up with this setup for madvr?, thank you so much for your help.

That would be preferable, the 2060 Super is basically a 2070 (non-super). Its a good step up from a 2060 but also $100 more. The 2060 KO can be had from EVGA for $299.

The 2060 is pretty good madvr card with a number of people here using them. And just for reference the lower model of the madvr envy (madvr's new hardware that cost $5000) is speculated to have something like a 1660 Super based on the advertised teraflops.

So 2060 super better, 2060 still pretty dang good.

I am pretty happy with a GTX 1060 6GB. Most of (not all) the settings I want to use I can.
