separate display and audio through GTX1080

I am not sure if this is possible.

I am currently having some drop outs with my pc. I have my pc connected to my Amp - my amp is then connected to my TV and also my projector. All other devices including xbox x do not cause a drop out and also i get no drop outs to my projector

the drop outs occur with my pc running into my sony xe940 TV.

my cables are mounted behind my walls (the main one from amp to TV)

i will try a new cable from pc to amplifier.

however my gtx1080 has one HDMI output and a couple of display ports. I was wondering if its possible to use the display port on the gtx1080 and send the video to my TV (using a display port/HDMI adaptor) and using the existing HDMI to my amp just for audio.

Yes, you can do that (I do it/something similar). Just need to be aware that Windows will see the amp (I assume you are talking about an AVR) as a display and have it set as a second monitor. You should be able to mirror the displays so you don't have a "ghost" display (a display that is non-functional).

Your issue seems like it would be cable related more than anything. How long is it/what settings are you using on your PC? Cable might be too long for 4K, 60hz, 4:4:4, 8bit? You could try dropping to 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 to see if you still have issues?
