Windows 10 Backup Server?

I hope this is the appropriate place to post this inquiry.

Hard to believe, but I'm still running WHS v1. It backs up my Win 10 Pro desktop. I've used it to backup other Windows machines over the years but they are retired now.

I am looking for a backup solution that offers bare metal restore, disk drive restore, and file restore.

I'm researching Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows FREE.

Anyone with experience backing up and restoring with Veeam for Microsoft Windows?

Separately, I am trying Backblaze for online cloud backup. Seems decent so far but I consider it a secondary backup solution. I want an onsite server for backups.

What are others using to backup their Win 10 machines?

The free included windows 7 based image backup still works perfectly in windows 10. It creates a mountable virtual disk and an emergency bare metal boot disk.

If you want to restore individual files, just go into disk manager and mount the virtual disk image to any drive letter that is unused.

You can backup the virtual disk image file to backblaze. Just go into your backblaze settings and take vhd files out of the exclude list.

Easy, quick and free

I have been using AOMEI Backupper free edition and it has worked to save my system already at least once. I back up to my FreeNas box.

Follow-up to my OP.

Here is the backup solution I implemented at the beginning of December 2019:

Backup server:
I took the hardware that was running WHSv1, removed the HDD's, installed an old 80GB Intel SSD (C: drive for OS), and a new 14TB WD/HGST HDD (E: drive for backup), installed Win 10 Pro (already had the license).

Desktop computer needing backup:
I installed Veeam Agent for Windows (free) on my Win 10 Pro desktop computer. At 1:00am everyday, the desktop computer backs up to the "new" backup server across my 1Gb LAN using SMB to a specified shared folder on the backup server. Veeam supports file, volume, bare metal restores and compression and deduplication to save disk space. Backups are quick. So far, very pleased.

I plan to get my wife a Win 10 laptop. I can install Veeam Agent for Windows (free) on the laptop, create a different shared folder on the Backup server, and the desktop and laptop will backup daily to their respective shared folders.

I just setup server essentials 2016 on an old hp mediasmart to do my backups. To get rid of the annoyances of being on a domai, I download the connector and let it do it's work then after the client setup is complete I change the windows network settings from the domain back to a workgroup. I just have to create a few backups and restore them to confirm everything works as intended. If that plan salls through I'll use urbackup.

Before discovering Veeam, I tried WSE 2016. I didn't like it. Just too many hassles, limitations, and complexity. MS will EOL support/updates for WSE 2016 in Jan 2027.

Looking forward, MS stripped a lot of useful features from WSE 2019 such as CLIENT BACKUP! Unbelievable.

So far, I really like Veeam Agent for MS Windows (free). Very easy to use. And since I am familiar with Win 10 Pro having used it for quite sometime on my client desktop, it's much easier to administer Win 10 Pro on my Veeam backup repository (aka Backup Server). However, any NAS that supports SMB will suffice as a backup repository.

Since Veeam is in the backup business, they are totally focused on backup solutions for SMB's to large Enterprises. It's cool they drop us home guys a bone and provide free backup software. I'd even pay for it if they offered a single or family use license.

between creating a disk image then using file history, I don't know what else you would need. Windows 10 has everything in it that you need.
