'DVR' software selection - file types

Hey - I could use some advice....

Obviously, things are changing for WMC EPG folks like me.

As long as I'm changing, I thought I'd ask...

What other software uses what file formats for storage?
If something was just as fast and accurate as WTV but portable to other device types, that would be worth looking at for me.
And I mean just drag and drop to Android for instance, and stock player play it without any conversion steps.

I get SD/epg123 to work, which other software DVRs use same subscription?

And of course, both?

THX!

EPG123 is designed to work only with Windows Media Center. I believe there are other methods for importing guide data from Schedules Direct into other DVR apps. The SD DVR app uses it's own guide data and that's included in your yearly subscription cost.

A long time ago i used sage tv before it went open source. I tried that again after firing directv with 2 HDHR Prime 3 tuners. It works well on most devices, but it requires more setup and tweaking work. It has a subscription model of either 8$ a month or 80$ a year. So far for me it has been a winner on my shield / firetv / and mibox. There isn't a roku app. But it works very well on the devices I have, it also does a good job of remote streaming while out of the home. The subscription fees also cover the guide data. Overall I think I am going to keep it mostly it seems to just work and the developers are very responsive with questions and issues.

Of course the same caveat applies, DRM channels are a no go unless you use the HDHR channels app for live viewing. I am not sure about their dvr software as I haven't heard good things about it.

Take a look at CW_EPG (linked in my sig). Its .ts files are very standard and can be played on all platforms, e.g. by VLC.

HDHomerun users: Please check out our free Cliff Watson EPG PVR software to schedule your recordings.
