PC-based Drives Obsolescence

Is an ongoing thing, I have PC-based BR and DVD players which after a few years seem to BREAK, but the funny thing is, they only FAIL TO MOUNT with new (factory) BR/DVD releases, they mount my old BR/DVD collections just fine. I feel this is intentional obsolescence by the industry to force me to buy new hardware.

Notice I said IT DOES NOT MOUNT, I insert the disc, and the drives go back&forth, back&forth to try to mount the disc forever or until I hit eject. Once it mounts, the OS recognize it, I am able to deal with it as wished.

Anybody have such experience? Seems like a firmware update should fix it, but where?

I build my own computers and don't have that problem at all. What drives and OS are you using?

Check the manufacturer's website for firmware updates. It's also possible that whatever playback software you're using may not be recognizing newer releases for some reason.

Well I won't tell you to ditch the Win 7 but hopefully you already know that. I don't know anything about Macs, don't like them at all.

I agree with captain, look for firmware updates. What software are you using for playback?
