Any HDR Blu-ray software player that switches display to HDR 10/12 bits properly ?

I have run into an issue where JRiver MC25 with MadVR switches my display to HDR, but is still sending only 8 bit RGB signal. This causes the colors to be wrong. The only workaround I have found is to manually switch the desktop color space to YCbCr420 every time I want to play a UHD movie.

Is there a player out there that will properly switch to the best possible color depth and encoding ? For Blu-ray movies at 24fps, there is enough bandwidth to send an RGB 12 bit signal, or YCbCr444 signal. Consumer-based players can all do this seamlessly. For example, my Sony UBP-X800 . Unfortunately, I can't get the color depth/color encoding to vary from that of the Windows desktop so far. See more gory details at https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/ind...,125636.0.html .
Has anyone found a fix ? I'm ready to look into other UHD BD HDR software players.

Spent the last half hour playing with it. Sadly, has the exact same problem as JRiver MC. It plays the HDR movie in 8 bits, if the desktop is set to 8 bit RGB color. It doesn't change the color pixel depth to 12 bits. Is there any way to make it do so without manually changing the nVidia control panel ? Or is this a lost cause under Windows ?

If i turn off HDR in windows, DVDFab media player turns it on for the movie then turns it back off when finished. Isn't that what you wanted to accomplish?

Well, it turns on BT.2020 color space, but still sends the signal over 8 bit RGB only. HDR with 8 bit pixel color depth isn't HDR at all. My Sony UHD BD player can automatically send BT.2020 over 12 bits RGB, for movies playing in 24p, which is most of them.

Is it sending those 10 bits in RGB or YCbCr444, 422, 420 ? And how can you tell for sure ? Does your LG have a screen that show the bits per pixel, and chroma sampling ? My Optoma UHD65 projector unfortunately doesn't show that it in its menus. Only X resolution, Y resolution and Hz. There is an "HDR" icon that lights up, but it is useless as it lights up even if an 8 bit signal is sent. So, I have to rely on the SR-7011 receiver to track the HDMI signal info and show me full details. And of course my eyes - the difference is not subtle.

Same issue seemingly on my Samsung Q7DR 82" TV. I haven't found a screen in its menus that shows the full input signal details. The HTPC is connected directly to the TV in that case, so there is no receiver. I can't know for certain exactly what signal is output.

MPC-HC/BE switches from 60Hz 8bit (desktop mode - no video player) to matched refresh rate (video mode - with video player) IE: 23Hz 12bit without fail using nVidia. 60Hz will always remain 8bit no matter desktop mode or video mode. I think your choice of software player is your problem. Try MPC. Fwiw, no version of DVDFab Media Player can automatically match refresh rates. Only if you manually change rate in GPU GUI first and manually change back when finished.

As I stated in the other thread where you asked, you can check bit depth using madVr stats, your AVR report, and your GPU control panel.

HOW TO - Kodi 2D - 3D - UHD (4k) HDR Guide Internal & External Players
W10 1909 / MPC-BE\HC / PotPlayer / PowerDVD 19 / DVDFab Player 3,5&6 / KODI 19 videoplayer
GTX960 4GB / RGB Full 4:4:4 / 8bit Desktop mode =60Hz / 10/12bit Video mode = Matched Refresh rates IE 23,24,25,60Hz
Samsung 82" Q90R / Denon S720W
