So how do I get ahold of a KBK Zoltrix card? Since there seems like no options for my cybertainment card?

For the Cybermail card, what about some kind of shielding goo? Is there such a thing?

Man.. about a full half of the requests are from industry now. Process controll companies, biotech, medical, monitoring companies, engineering solution companies. All heads of their respective departments.

Here we go. You'll get it back in about 6-12 months or so. wait for it. New HTPC gear that actually works on a PQ standpoint. That's a new one.

You're welcome.

This thread just seems to die. Are there any pics of the mod. Does anyone know if the mod works on the AverMedia "AverTV Stereo" card, and how to do it?

I have this card and it exhibits the same vertical bands. Is there a website with pictures and instructions on how to fix it? Could someone perhaps email me the instructions?

Thanks,

I have a question. I can't use my Hauppauge WinTV PCI becuase the noise is to terrible (and I don't have anything with an external tuner), is this something that might apply to my card? If so, could you type a "this is what to look for" on the board. I should be able to persuade an electronicsy person to do any mods for me :) Just need some 'instructions' of a sort.

Cheers :D

Here's my unsolicited endorsement for KBK's modified Zoltrix TV Genie card:

Throw your cards in the trash and order KBK's modified Zoltrix TV Genie card; I just got mine this weekend, and it's a major improvement in PQ and the vertical bar noise is gone. Nada. Zip. His workmanship is impressive for a custom modded product!

You can reach KBK at: [email protected]

As previously discussed above, he can email you the pic's for the vertical noise bar mod. (You need to ask nicely :) ) His photos are of the Zoltrix card-I don't know how much good they would do someone with another brand of card. IMHO, it's just not worth the trouble to do it yourself!

Thanks,

FYI:
I thought that I might stay out of making those pesky little modded cards..as the zoltrix is not easily available in my area anymore. (painful me, painful waiting times, painful customers, etc,....) If I do it any more.. it will be a dedicated card, with no tuner, and outboard power connection. It will be done the same, except this time.. with the maximum quality components it is possible to find, use, or buy. slightly pricier, but, not much I can do about that.

thre last few available have been sold. just incase you where one of those tha emailed, the poeple who want them have not been e-mailed yet, so it might be you....

I'd better emailt hem soon though..as the rate my email comes in these days, it's like trying to read as you fall down the side of a cliff....(the writing is on the side of the cliff!)

I have FIVE cards left..and all are being made wit the HIGHEST compionet quality that is available, and the card is -noticably- better than any before. I thought I'd finish it off with a bang.

Does anyone know if the DSCALER team is gong to be pursuing the latest chipset for dscaler use? Is it in the works? Will this take place? How far away is it? Does anyone have the tech book on that newer chip?

Wow, it's been over a year and no one's posted/hosted pics of the vertical bar mod yet :(

Hell, you can't even find 'KBK zoltrix' on Google. That's bad...

I just tried to fix this problem with my AverTV Stereo card, but there were no sizable ground planes on the front of the card anywhere near the Conexant or clock chips, and the ones on the back were small (compared to the Zoltrix card) and separated by traces. There were no ground planes right next to each other that could be simply connected by soldering across the gap as with the Zoltrix card.
I connected the ground planes near the Conexant and clock chips on the back with copper wire by scraping off some of the green coating and soldering the wire on, running in a loop from the ground planes connected directly to the metal tab with the connectors, through the other ground planes and back. It was more of a pain than I expected (figuring out which were the ground planes, and getting the solder to stick), and it did not fix the problem. Either there is still too much resistance (as Ken said there probably would be using wire), or the noise from the clock chip is getting into the signal some other way.
Has anyone else had any luck reducing or eliminating the vertical noise bars from an AverTV Stereo card?

- Dave

I see some ebay auctions coming for this card and the prices going higher than the card cost from Ken ;) [[ the card is worth it IMO ]] .

I have the Pinnacle PCTV pro and have sent ken a message asking for the pics for the "vertical bar fix". I also have diagonal noise problems that are only on cable channel 2. It just so happens that this is NBC and we tend to watch it quite a bit. Any suggestions on how to filter/ shield for this?

Tuner block problems are generally unfixable by any grounding fix. this just has to do with reparing problems concerning vertical noise from the chip mounting problems..due to grounding. this specifically concerns the zero restoration, or black level control circuitry inthe upper left corner ofthe zoltrix cards. Other cards may have similar problems, due tothe fact that the manufacturers of said card probably followed the Conexant tech book useage/implementation proceedure to perfection.
