Can someone explain the relevant differences between this device, i.e. the VGP-XL1B2, and the DVP-CX777ES, when it comes to mass-ripping?

I don't get it...

It's quite simple.

The VGP-XL1B2 connects to your computer using FireWire. So, your PC can read the disks, rip them, control the changer mechanism, etc.

The DVP-CX777ES is just a MULTIDISC PLAYER and can't be connected to your computer in any way that would allow the computer's software to control the disk changer. So, since you can't connect it to a computer, how could it used to do mass ripping?

Works great.
When I start up IMG Burn, it says, in the log file, that AnyDVD may interfere, make sure it is disabled. ???

But, apart from that, I only get I/O errors when I try to do anything, so I'm still a long way from getting anything to function.

Question Replace optical drive in VGP-XL1B3

Has anyone managed to replace the DVD drive in a vgp-xl1bX llike a vgp-xl1b3 ?
I'm getting the 'no disc' error now and am trying to replace the optical drive

I have a slot load UJ-225 on hand, but I'm unclear what need to be done.
(I may have confused this with replacing the drive in the vgp-xl1 )

I have two XL1B's that have never been used, other than just testing that they work. I was actually surprised that they simply worked on Win10. Anyone interested in buying these? Located in Phoenix, AZ.

Hello,

Can you please clarify what you mean by "they simply worked on Win10" ?

Were you able to control the disc changers with the computer running Windows 10?

Was the computer interface able to see, identify, play and burn CD and DVD media and identify/read the content in Windows 10?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Yes, i was able to control the changer with MediaChanger.exe (inventory, load, eject, change disk). I don't have any DVD's, but i used some CD-R's to change around. Then i burned a few of them, which only worked at 8x speeds (verbatim 52x media). Reading them in explorer was no problem. There is no Win10 media center any longer so i wasn't able to test that.

All of this worked with the inbox microsoft driver, and i was very surprised that it even exists.

Hello again. I'm Robert.

Thanks for getting back to me with the clarification of your message. I'm Robert.

Although I rarely use my own Disk Changers anymore -- having already converted all of my own disk media to digital files on hard drives -- I have been continuing to acquire some machines here and there which are in new or like new and excellent operating and cosmetic condition to keep on the shelf for spare parts and unit replacements. Too many of them have already gone to Goodwill, the landfills or have been trashed for recycled metals recovery.

As a 'newbie' (AVS Forum's label, sorry) I think you still need a few more posts before we can communicate to discuss your Disk Changers by 'PM's. So let me give you my email addresses and if you would like to send me a quick message, then we will have an email link to directly discuss.

Primary email: [email protected]
Alternate email: [email protected]

After a few disasters at the hands of UPS and FedEx, trying to ship these units and have them arrive undamaged and still in working condition, I have decided to only acquire units which are still in their original factory packaging. They just don't ship well packed any other way.

Send me a message at your convenience, if this accurately describes yours and we can discuss them.

Best regards,
Robert Enninga
