Here is a THIN DIY Amp Cooler

I have my stereo in a small cubby, pieces are stacked on top of each other. The Amps are generating most of the heat and "cooking" my PreAmp above. I needed a blocker, then fans to divert the heat. A store-bought cooler wouldn't fit, I made my own THIN.

First, a slap to block the Amps' heat away from my PreAmp, then mounted two very THIN blowers fans (MacBook Air), the air gap is only like 10mm. The Amps grills are over the top and bottom of their enclosures, so the fans are right above the openings. The cubby is open front, the rear is also open and exhausts into a closet with venting on top of the doors.

The fan control turns down the fans to about 3,500 RPM, above which they become audible. Result is 10c lower from what I had before without the fans.

I didn't place the Amps on top of the PreAmp because it wouldn't look right plus the Amps are heavier and have bigger footprint than the PreAmp.

Very nice design. I believe a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) device acts like a resistor to give less power to the fan (blows slower), however unlike a resistor, which simply heats up and effectively wastes the power as heat, the PWM "pulses" at full voltage or zero voltage at variable on and off ratios, which does not waste energy as heat.

An excellent idea and a very nice build. Thanks for sharing.

Cool! That looks awesome and fits perfect with the limited space you have!

For those with a few inches to spare, I’m running AC Infinity Aircom S8s. They are 1.5” thick and you can get one that spits the air out the back, or out the top.

They offer a variety of width sizes (13, 15, 17).

They also are programmable to ramp up automatically as the item gets hot, and slow down when cool.

Anyway just another option out there.

They also offer one that exhausts out the front.
