OK sure, I agree that would work. Anything you self-host and stream into Chrome should show up in the transferred tab.

How long until Google wants to monitor what you do on your TV even when you've selected another source input and asks this of the display manufacturers?

The real question is how long before stores simply give away this "Google Netflix Stick" if you sign up for Netflix, or perhaps some other service. I bet Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, etc. are all giving these away when Black Friday rolls around.

Looking forward to reading it. If it does a good job of Hulu and the network sites, I'm all in. And Netflix in HD is great to hear. Hopefully an Amazon Prime app will show up for the same reasons.

Yes, it certainly is. But since I already have Netflix available on all of my tv's, Hulu/network sites is what will motivate me to purchase one.

That was quick. If it can flawlessly stream a 1080p/Dolby digital mkv, I'm in.

Assumedly it's just transferring the compressed file to decode on the chromecast itself, like it works with AirPlay.

Nope here it is playing 1080p. Doesn't work with .mkvs though - they just prompt/start a dl in the browser. Edit: If you mean on the device itself, they state it deleivers up to 1080p, so I don't see why that wouldn't be the case for local/network playback. Can't say for sure though ATM.

Amazon is sold out.
I ordered one from Best Buy online as an in-store pickup, will pick up on my way home from work today. Looking forward to playing with this for net cost of only $11.

I assume the 3 months of free Netflix is only for the streaming service, otherwise I'll be upgrading my DVD service and loading up for 3 months of current releases.

So, I called my local BB this morning, a sleepy store, and they first didn't know what they were then looked them up when I gave them the SKU and said the truck would arrive this afternoon. When I went by, they said "one more hour to unloand and stock" so I went grocery shopping next door. When I came back, one hour later, they took me to a locked cage where ... a grand total of 2 were available for purchase, which I bought, selling them out. In other words, the employees bought them up except they knew I was coming in. I expect scores to show up on eBay tomorrow.

Having a wireless issue,. but the still images it shows are very reassuring- no quiver at all.

Amazon is sold out. Google Play says Ships in 3 - 4 weeks. Best Buy all local stores show as unavailable.

So it seems it is sold out for now.

I am sure they will appear on Ebay etc.

I'll wait until they are available again. At $35 and Netflix free for 3 months I will give it a go.

In my area (Philly), I see some local Best Buy stores still have it available for local pickup, in 3-5 days. But only half the stores show that, the other half show it as "not available."

I just got my Netflix codes in the mail. Funny, I cancelled my subscription a few days ago. I was certain I was done with Netflix. Now, they get three more months to convince me to keep paying them. Well played, Netflix. Well played.

Could definitely be a cool device for those who don't already have streaming capabilities. Only thing I could use this for is like the person said in the article, in a hotel with free wi-fi.

Turn it up!

My big issue with this is it uses UPnP. I don't know about you but I flat out refuse to enable UPnP on my routers. if ports need forwarding id rather do it manually then trust a protocol that is that lax when it comes to network security. heck I have even seen some routers with the UPnP stack exposed to the internet witch is flat out stupid. http://www.howtogeek.com/122487/htg-explains-is-upnp-a-security-risk/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEa43qM4JjQ are handy sources to learn more about why UPnP is stupid.

Many TV sets are now smart - surely almost all of them will be within a year or two? - and most people who can afford HD televisions are probably already buying smart TVs so I can see this having a limited shelf life, though that is not a criticism.

$35? so that will probably be £35 in rip-off Britain then.

I am a bit confused on this product. Is there a way to stream my music collection from my iMAC to this device in another room? I have an iMAC, with external hard drives connected to it that I would like to stream my music to my AVR in another room. I have flac and apple lossless files. Can I connect the Chromecast into my AVR and stream directly to my AVR to just listen to music?
I currently have an apple TV, but I lose connectivity after about 5 min of use. I cannot figure out how to fix this and I basically gave up on it after trying so many different solutions on the Apple forums. Basically its just a worthless paperweight, plus even if it did work, it still would not play my flac files.
If there is a way to stream flac and apple lossless music files (of varying bit rates and resolution), then I am sold on this. This is wishful thinking isn't it?

Just seeing this via the AVS monthly newsletter.

So, this is what?

All I see is a way to turn your Netbook, Android Phone, iTablet, etc. into a Remote that displays the device's content on your big screen.

Does that about sum this up?
