My 55C7 Replaced by LG

After 6 months it had significant burn in and the photos I sent LG easily convinced them to replace it (well out of warranty). I had accepted this as a loss but this forum inspired me to try to recover this equipment. LG said they had problems with consistency on these screens. LG said I wouldn't have to worry about my viewing habits with the replacement panel.

Well, the local repairman who was assigned to replace my screen (62 years old and in the business for 40 years) responded to what I told him LG had stated: He said he would NEVER own an OLED and he replaces FOX news viewers' OLED's frequently (my burn in was from gaming, not news viewing).

But I have this forum and LG to thank for the outcome in my situation.

A lot of my TV (65EF9500) usage is Fox News and Hallmark, both of which have logos on-screen almost constantly and I have zero burn-in and has over 6100 hours on it.

I also have zero burn-in on my Panasonic plasma with about 12,500 hours on it, and plasma was much more subject to burn-in than OLED has ever been.

I suppose if you run your TV in torch mode with OLED light set to 100, maybe, but for normal users, I don't think the risk is all that high.

I don't understand the point of spending so much money on a top of the line 4K OLED if all you do with it is watch Cable TV. But if you've got the cash I guess it's whatever floats your boat.

new lg c9 user here and I don't really expect burn-in to be a problem for me. I'll typically only be using this for games and movies on my days off with the occasional use of football during the season.

Its a big issue as long as retailers and manufacturers don't cover it via warranty for a respectful length period (I'd say goods costing £1000-8000 should be able to last at least 3 years).

I have been a C6 user for about 3 years now. This year, I got burn-in and I have started noticing these vertical bands. I really love the TV though and I'm presently emailing with LG. I think what you see in the pics is the result of FIFA. But I play so many other games too and watch soccer and other content. Burn in is a big possibility. Screen shift is always on and Clear Panel noise does its thing after many hours of watching. Still...

Well, after 2 years my LG OLED got the burn. My screen settings were always conservative. Tried to prevent it. It’s a local news channels logo which I watch for a hour or two every day. Their logo color is yellow. Wondering if certain colors tend to burn in more than other colors.

To add a little more, during my hour or two local of news watching involves me switching channels between other local news channels. Just the one with the yellow logo burnt in. I been watching like this for the two years I had this TV and this just recently happened.

I have a relative that uses a C7 for streaming the big three via internal apps, and displaying static Christmas images each holiday season. That's it.

For those interested, Samsung has a burn-in test for OLED on YouTube. At test conclusion, they suggest buying a QLED if burn-in is found.

I seen a post somewhere on this site about a member with burn in issues. Said he would never again buy a OLED if after spending big money and have to worry about it. As I stated, I was very careful with my picture settings. Never thought it would happen to me.

If it happens, it happens, the possibility isn't worth the picture degradation seen on any LCD screen.

Perhaps LG should put up a video of a star field and state that if you see grey blocks around the stars or your background is anything other than pure black, get an OLED. 👍

BI is a possibility with any OLED but it depends in how and what you watch. They do take a little more care and feeding that an LED does but the tradeoff is the best PQ out there. Yellow is supposed to be the worse color for BI from what I've read.

Well said. With the pixel scrubbers on newer models...BI should be a thing of the past with OLED as long as people don't spend 8 hours straight on channels with banners/bold logos. A 5-minute scrub every 2000 hours addresses the issue.

Here's some education (in contrast to speculation) on the topic:
