JVC DLA-RS4500K Firmware V2.0 Released

Today JVC has announced the availability of new V2.0 firmware for its DLA-RS4500K 4K Laser Projector. The new firmware adds three new sets of features including Auto Tone Mapping, dedicated color profiles for the Panasonic DP-UB9000 UHD Blu-ray Player, and additional screen adjustment modes.

1. This firmware upgrade, which will be available on June 27, will enable Auto Tone Mapping that optimizes HDR10 content. This function utilizes the mastering information to adjust settings automatically for the best picture quality on a wide variety of content. it also allows for manual adjustment, and it can select a fixed value in situations where mastering information is not present in the content.

2. Two new, dedicated color profiles are for use with Panasonic's DP-UB9000 UHD Blu-ray Player. these profiles are meant to be used with the Panasonic players HDR Optimizer function that uses content metadata to tone map HDR content in a manner that matches the projector's capabilities. The premise is that this provides the best possible HDR image.

3. This firmware update expands the number of screen material and characteristic presets from 135 to 165.

The JVC DLA-RS4500K is the company's 4K flagship that features a "BLU-Escent" laser-phosphor light source. It is capable of outputting 3000 lm of brightness, making it a formidable selection for HDR presentation and with JVC's famous D-ILA technology it delivers the native contrast that make JVC projectors the top choice of AVS Forum home theater enthusiasts.

Starting June 27, you'll be able to download the firmware update from the following link: https://www3.jvckenwood.com/english/...dla-z1_rs4500/

There are quite a bit of RS4500 owners. The RS4500 owners thread is pretty active.

JVC also told my dealer today that the RS4500 is still their current flagship and they have no plans to replace it anytime soon, which is why the FW upgrade came out for it.

But still no firmware upgrade from those of us with RS400/X550's who have to endure the constant blackouts while re-synching and shift to the GammaD setting every time it hits a flag in a 4K Blu-ray. Screw it. It's going on Ebay tommorow. Hello Sony VW295.

Yes and no

Unfortunately the JVC RS4500/Z1 was discontinued by JVC throughout the UK and Europe many months ago. This was because it WAS the intention of JVC to release a new flagship replacement laser projector to replace the JVC RS4500/Z1 at IFA 2019 and CEDIA 2019 in September. However, because of the technical issues and consequential delay with respect to the new range launched last year, wherein only recently have all the backorders been filled, it is my understanding that JVC will likely postpone this until next year now... which unfortunately means that as far as the UK and Europe are concerned it is only pre-existing owners who will benefit from this new firmware update, because you can't purchase the projector here any more. Dealer's can't buy it and it has been removed from the distributor websites. Meaning that as far as the UK and Europe are concerned the flagship JVC projector is in fact the JVC NX9/RS3000, and will be until the successor to the JVC RS4500/Z1 is released...

I'm sorry, but what is this UK / Europe thing you mention? Some city or state in USA?
