Amazon Music HD Streaming Service Launched Today

Streaming HD music from Amazon? It just became a thing. Free trial now available.

Of course there are many questions. Will Tidal survive this? How about Qobuz? How does it affect "boutique" hi-res lables? Will this raise the profile of HD music in general? Does Amazon have hardware on the way that focuses on fidelity?

One thing I know for sure is I'm signing up for the trial today and with Amazon in the game, HD music streaming just got its largest-ever platform. Will Apple make its move next?

I'll certainly do the 90 day trial. It could be interesting.

For now Apple Music has been the best "fit" for my family.

I own several high res albums that I enjoy. Many are available in 5.1 which isn't something that would be offered through this service. There has been suggestion that much of the high res from Amazon's new service is upsampled content. It could be interesting to see what the actual deal is so I'm glad the trial period is 90 days.

Yes. I believe Apple Music can also be found on non apple devices now and the web directly.

I do love Apple Music. After reading more about the Amazon new music service I think I'll read even more about it before going for the free trial. I have many recordings in 24/96 format that I can already play back through various devices including my iPhone on the go. (Using Onkyo HF player and Dragonfly DAC.)

I think Amazon is great for doing this and I definitely would love to have Apple respond by adding high res to Apple Music. That would be best for me.

Anyone try this via Heos on a Denon AVR? Have a Denon x4300h on a wired connection but stalls every 2 seconds. I can airplay from my iphone but I don't think you can get the highest ultra HD quality that way.

LG OLED65C7P (Chad B Calibrated) | Denon X4300H | HDHomeRun Quatro | Nvidia Shield | ATV 4K | Oppo UDP-203 | 40TB Plex server
5.2.4 | Front Klipsch RP-160M x2 | Center Klipsch RP-450C | Surrounds Klipsch RP-150M x2 | Atmos Klipsch RP-140SA x 4 | Subs SVS PC-4000 x 2

Works fine on my 8500. HEOS app on iPhone X; my 8500 is on my home network with ethernet. Pretty amazing; definitely worth the 90 day free trial.

I've just got to learn HEOS now. I've been using a Sonos player for over 10 years now, connected by digital coax to my receiver. As there's no indication Sonos plans to support hi-rez audio, I just may switch to HEOS for my streaming needs.

What is the cost going to be once the 90 day trial period is over? Also, is it clear that one can opt out easily if one is not satisfied with the content? As one of the previous posters said, I want to see if the music is truly HD or just upsampled content before I make any long term commitments. I wish companies would be required to ask people if they want to continue the service once the trial period is over rather than automatically enrolling them in the program. I always worry that they will make it hard for someone to cancel their enrollment.

Thanks.

I want to try this via my Marantz SR6013 I just received last Thursday. Do you have a link for a simple tutorial to set this up? Otherwise I'll consult my manual (I don't have SONOS).

Thanks for the heads-up Mark. Does anyone know how to access this through a Roku? I installed the Amazon Music app and signed up for the 90-day trial but there is no indication that it is HD, and there is no Amazon Music HD app as yet...

Agreed, I used tidal for a while and when I tried to cancel I got an email saying we hate to see you go but thanks for your business with us. Your all set. I thought it was all set but only to find out three months later they had been billing my credit card the whole time. When I contacted them after I realized ( email is the only way to contact them no phone option )
Going back-and-forth with emails the girl said there’s nothing we can do about past subscriptions sorry you’re out of luck I had to go through a huge process with my credit card company to stop payment from that point on because I didn’t want this happening again and in addition to that the credit card company took months to reimbursed me for the money tidal stole from me. Tidal could’ve made this right it was their mistake but they chose not to. Honestly it was only $60 but it was the point of it, rude

I wouldnt be surprised if tidal is behind this program ,Amazon often uses outside vendors. This would make sense of the 90 day trial drop down to 30 days doesn’t sound like something Amazon would do.

If this is truly an Amazon thing I’m in

Where can you go to see what's in the catalog? For instance is the record "Stars in the Attic" by Leslie Sanazaro available in hi res?

Not sure how to see the catalog without signing up...
Looks like they have it... or some of it...
In HD, not Ultra HD.

Working fine on my Marantz SR7012 (wired).
Although I still don't like the Heos app / interface.

The native apps (Amazon Music, Tidal, etc.) are always better.

I usually end up using the desktop app - in this case Amazon Music - from my PC, output via digital Coax to my Marantz.
I just lose the convenience of navigating from my phone...
But for queuing up an album or playlist and letting it play it's easier and better quality (up to Ultra HD) too.

Hmm... I guess HEOS does support up to the max Ultra HD natively.
Here's a shot showing it running full 24-bit 192kHz

HEOS app shows the logo too...

Of course they are. It's business.

Currently I'm a bit mad at Best Buy so anything I would have bought there I'm getting from Amazon instead.

I don't see any problem with rewarding good service. I hope big companies aren't broken up in the future just because they have done too good of a job.
