Best Apocalyptic Movies to Pass the Time

It may not be the apocalypse, but the current coronavirus crisis has created a situation where we all have to lean heavily on home entertainment, because restaurants and movie theaters are closed and sports is canceled. And while some may prefer to spend their time watching comedies or romances or nature documentaries, there’s a certain catharsis to watching an apocalyptic movie.

Click here to check out the list & if you have a suggestion for a great apocalyptic movie, leave it in the comments.

For a high brow apocalyptic thriller, Dark City (1998).

For fun, Shaun of the Dead (2004).

For nostalgia, On The Beach (1959).

For 1950's hysteria (and special effects that still look great in 2020) War of the Worlds (1953).

Lots more ...

It's a VIRTUAL channel unless stated otherwise.

I find it refreshing to occasionally discuss movies here. I'm definitely a movie fan first and a home theater fan second. Home theater is a means to an end. But I talk to some home theater enthusiasts and it seems like they know very little about movies, or have very narrow (often Hollywood-centric) tastes. I guess there's nothing wrong with that; we're all in this for our own personal reasons. But I'm happy to see a prominent thread about movies.

Good thread. I myself have been watching pandemic related movies & documentaries since last week. One interesting movie I watched at Amazon Prime is the "FLU". It's a 2013 Korean movie with English subtitles. I don't speak Korean but enjoyed the movie nevertheless.

Thanks, and right-on, bro.

FWIW I'm lovin' "iso" for movie-watching (first and foremost, helping humanity), but truth be known I've been "social distancing" for years. Cocooning. See Cocoon (1985), too.

Stay safe. Short-term patience is long-term success.

Movies and music can be especially helpful in challenging times, micro or macro. Talking about them is added bonus.

Recently watched Contagion on Blu-ray then fired up Netflix and caught Outbreak, with Contagion being the better of the two. May have to watch 12 Monkeys soon. Thinking about revisiting The Road, but that always leaves me depressed. Been sprinkling in some Disney+ here and there to break up the monotony of doom and gloom.

So, there's my list:
Contagion
Outbreak
12 Monkeys
The Road
