I am getting ready to go pick up 14 large 3 way speakers with 15 inch woofers in preparation for a future 13 channel receiver...…..do I need them now, no...…………….but that's the joy of the disease you can throw logic out the window with upgraditus and do what you want,......even if it makes no sense as long as it makes you happy it was worth it

I feel much better and arguably more happy since I embraced audiophilia upgraditus…….

A dark cloud is over my head. I feel so inadequate and underachieving with two floorstand speakers.

Did it again! Well, thought that I needed an upgrade on my music streaming listening experience because keeping all of these CDs and blurays are taking up more space than I care to deal with. Well, the blurays can stay and of course my SACDs. So, I went out and got a Bluesound Node 2i to help stream Hi-Res Audio. Also got a Tidal subscription to their Hi-Fi/Master streaming service. (Loving MQA, btw)

Also, decided that why not have a better listening experience on my phone. So I went out and purchased a Dragonfly Red DAC and the Lightning-to-USB3 cable to connect my DAC. You know what comes next... new set of ear/headphones.

Again, it NEVER ends. I LOVE it and am frustrated with me all at the same time. Til' next time brothers and sisters!

Congrats on the upgrades. You’ll love Bluesound as you’ve already realized. Just want to mention Tidal gives a discount to veterans if that applies to you.

I'm not sure how it actually has to be done, but if you rip the SACD's you can now play them via Bluesound though not as direct files.

I love the BluOS interface. I was listening to music last night on my living room setup (NAD T758v3 receiver into KEF R500's) and needed to go up to the guest room to assemble a cheap desk my wife had bought for it. Tablet in hand, select player and transfer to the Vault 2 in that room feeding the Denon AVR-1912 out to Hafler 200's. Not as good a speaker but still nice to be able to do that.

I’ll have to contact Bluesound about playing SACD’s. I’d like to have that option.

This is copied and pasted from the Bluesound support forum:

Initial DSD Playback requires the BluOS App for Windows or MacOS. In Settings. Playback, Turn on Enable DSD Playback. Using the Browse button, locate the DSD files on your PC. These will be copied and converted to PCM and available to all Bluesound Players in all Apps once completed. The original DSD files will not be altered...

Infected and feeling good

Usually when one is sick you feel bad. This affliction has the opposite affect. Since May of 2018 I’ve purchased an Oppo 203, ATV 4K(free with points), Sony 940E and most recently a Marantz 8012. If it feels this good to have Audiophilia Upgraditus, then I’m okay with this disease. Just saying........😷🤒🤕

Oppo’s announcement of stopping production on disc players about a year ago put me in a serious upgraditus spiral. So my plan to Atmos and 4K was turned all upside down. The original plan was to purchase an Atmos AVR, Atmos speakers, 4K TV and 4K player. There was no rush to do any of this. So Oppo makes there announcement and I rush to get a 203 before they are gone. I could not sit on a 4K player and no 4K TV, and the $6K 4K Sony goes on sale for $3K. That was a no brainer, TV purchase made. But I still wanted Atmos, and I’m still drooling over the Marantz 8012. So several months later I’m coming home with the 8012. Once the AVR is in place, I’m now wanting my Atmos speakers. So about a week an a half ago I go to my deLer and purchase my Atmos speakers. Now everything is in place and I feel like I’ll be done for a while, or at least that is what I’m hoping🤞🏾. This hobby is something else and just takes on a path that’s hard to get off.

I had been content with my system and have stayed off the forum for years, so that I wouldn't get infected. Last month my Integra processor failed and I came back on the forum to help in researching a replacement. I ended up getting a new Integra DRC-R1.1 and I also got infected. I just couldn't have a new 4K capable processor without starting to upgrade my system for 4K. Now I have gotten a new 4k Blu Ray player, Atmos speakers, another amplifier to drive the speakers, a new 4K projector and all the various pieces required to install everything. Once I am done with the upgrade I hope I will be cured for a while.

Here's something new. The refreshing change is that this upgrade doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

omg

Omg!
i shouldnt have done it! i counted!
over 50 speakers (subs included) [now i understand why my neighbours pacemaker keeps quitin]
receivers: 1 atmos, 2 tru hd, 2dd, 1 dolby pl, 1 dolby surround, 2 stereo receivers.
enough blurays and dvds for every amp.
there is surround sound in the living room, music room, master bedroom, spare bedroom, garage, and basement workshop. stereo in the bathroom and laundry room. and im toying with the idea of making a swiveling stand so i can put a 32" tv in the shed that swings out for view from the deck, with at least stereo.....
luv it!
i tried to get this affliction into remission by purchasing an inexpensive remote at christmas (had to buy somethin!) didnt work. want more.

I’ve fed the fever quite a bit over the last years time. See post 162 in this thread. I hear ya though. I think the only way to slow down the progression of this disease is to stay off the forum, stop reading the magazines and definitely stay away from the dealer. Realistically I know I’m doing none of what I just said, so I know it’s only a matter of time...

Disease is back

Spent some time in my dealers theater setup today. What a mistake that was, because I’m now feeling the need for better Subs. Actually I was already thinking about subs, but sitting in that theater just fed the fire that was already burning. There theater has four JL Audio subs (not sure of the model), but the bass just goes through your body. They are in wall subs by the way. So I now find myself reading subwoofer reviews. I was leaning towards SVS, but now I’ll have to also consider JL Audio. I’ve come to the realization that I’ll never be done with this hobby. Here’s the link to an AVS interview with my dealer about their theater.

Isn't audiophilia the disorder where one makes love to dead stereo equipment? That's gross. I've never tried it so maybe I'm wrong.

I don't know what to say. The title of this thread had me laughing.

Audiophilia- the love of audio equipment on the cutting edge of technology that improves your music and movie experience.
Usually exacerbated by the smell of fresh warm circuit boards. the olfactory senses then kickstart the auditory and visual senses requiring more stimuli.
There is professional discussion that this may be considered highly addictive and consideration of warning labels on the plain brown boxes equipment is shipped in may be required.
