Share a story about your first experience with a new home video or HT technology...

Here's one of mine...

Remember Component Video?

If you have more than one new technology story to share, by all means do! The more, the merrier, as they say.

Not sure this is a totally new technology experience per se, but a funny story.

I guess it's been over 10 years since I had my bass shakers installed on my couches. For those unfamiliar: they are basically transducers that add a little shake to the bass. When bolted to a couch you 'feel' a bit more of godzilla stomping around. I can raise and lower the 'volume/shake' via the secondary amp. Because one's back and backside naturally contact the couch in a regular seating position, that's where you'd feel the feedback. So my (then young) daughter started calling them the booty shakers.

Anyhow, she had a sleep over and the girls were watching a movie with a bunch of bass and one of the little ones jumped up out off the sofa in fright yelling, "There's something wrong with the couch!"

1st CD player at a Klipsch dealer, Klipschorns fed by I don't know what amp, Billy Joel...dead silence and then the steam whistle of "Allentown" went off very loud. I absolutely HATE hiss, color me SOLD at that time (before I heard abortions like the initial releases of Point Of Know Return and Tommy). Later on I discovered it wasn't just noise, a portable via noisy cassette adaptor still sounded better to me, lack of wow/flutter being the logical reason.
