It is currently a small 1080p tv that I am using for testing. I will hook it into another tv tonight to rule out it being a TV issue.

I was also thinking last night about possible upgrades that I think would be beneficial. I am probably one of the few who at this point never plan on integrating this into a media player. It would be neat to have some control over what posters are being displayed. For example you could have a "classics" folder and the posters would display from that location, a horror for Halloween time, new releases etc. Basically the ability to play posters from a folder level. One step further would be a random setting that would play from any poster randomly regardless of the folder structure.

It will not take much more testing on my end and I will definitely be sending donations your way thanks 0raid

Did you try what I suggested? Both my Samsung TVs did that until I went into their settings and set it to "Fit image to screen" or something like that. After changing the setting the both display MovieNow! perfectly.

Thanks
I played around in the settings for the tv a bit last night but didn't see anything. I will give it a shot again tonight. I'm really not all that concerned about it since it won't be my main display more just wanted to ensure there wasn't a pi / movienow! setting I was missing.

You might also check if one of your HDMI inputs is labeled PC. If so, you may need to use that input to eliminate the overscan.

Must have been a bit tired last night under advanced plain as day there is overscan. One more question do I have to click "change view" Everytime I start it? It is always on the blank screen with the logos on startup until I hit change view

To make it faster for people in North America, I have created a torrent of the movienow25.zip. Hopefully we can get a bunch of people from all over the world on the swarm to speed up download time. I'll be seeding from the UK and Canada. Instructions:

  1. Download the attached '.torrent.txt' file
  2. Rename by removing ".txt" from the end of the filename and add to your torrent download client
  3. Once it's done downloading, check the integrity using the SHA256 checksum:
    1. On linux, go to the 'movienow.2.5' directory and type: 'sha256sum -c sha256.txt'
    2. On mac/windows, you'll have to do a web search for how to do a SHA256 checksum and compare it to the output that is listed in the first post
  4. Leave the files where they are so that you can continue seeding to everyone else (if you need the zip in a different location, make sure to copy (not move) the file.
  5. Enjoy
Note: If you have already downloaded the file, and would like to help. Follow the above instruction, but add the torrent in a 'paused' state. Point your download client to the location of the .zip and 'force recheck'. It should show "100%", then start the torrent to begin seeding.
Attached Files
File Type: txt movienow.v2.5.torrent.txt (20.6 KB, 12 views)

Installed v2.5and working great. Noticed a few quirks with the transitions but I read that was to be fixed in 3.0. I tested playing a few movies and on a couple the "Now Playing" poster seem to get stuck. Not only staying on the last movie played but it also failed to switch to "Coming Soon" after it stopped. Only switched when I started a new movie.

Reading the last couple of pages and seeing feature requests I would like to add mine: the ability to know in settings if you are in Movie Poster or Custom Posters. Right now you have to cycle them to find out.

Thanks again for the great app and my donation was sent.

Does the custom poster folder need to follow any specific naming structure? I noticed some posters had a number followed by the movie name then others just had MoviePosters followed by a number. Do we have to follow that scheme or does any file name work? I have tons of posters (close to 8000) but they are named using the IMDb tt#.

I think it currently shows posters in alphabetical order so the numbering is a way to get around that and have it play in a more custom order

exactly , you can have any filename you want , but if you prefer custom order then you need to put a number....

Is there any chance you will add a random order feature to a future version? It would be helpful to have that capability.

Also, any chance you will add support for Kaleidescape?

Thanks so much. The project has really progressed and I’m happy I provided a donation. It’s been well worth it.

Great job! Between this and fixing the startup to remember your mode of operation (custom posters) on boot I will be able to replace my windows pc version when you push the update.

My only outstanding request now is the Kaleidescape feature which sounds like a long shot. It’s not really that essential, just having the now playing screen is very cool.

Thanks again.

Sorry for the late response. I stil have that problem, but thats on a monitor screen which only has a DVI input. On my other tv screen it works just fine. Might have to delve into the monitor settings.
- As i am running 2 screens i guess: movienow.local/settings/ only links to one of the screens?
- It would be nice to be able to upload the cinema logo from within the userinterface. Would that be possible?

- When you gonna add the custom posters with the audio files that you can play?
- Trailer support?

Once again great work!

I see this on the website: "Make sure you have a compatible 4+ GB SD card..."

Is this no longer sufficient? movienow25.img is over 15GB.

Code:
[email protected]:~/Downloads/movienow.v2.5$ unzip movienow25.zip
Archive: movienow25.zip
  inflating: movienow25.img

[email protected]:~/Downloads/movienow.v2.5$ du -hs *
15G movienow25.img
