I went ahead with Massdrop for the 65" LG B8 as I'm pretty flexible around delivery date. I'll report back one way or another post-delivery.

If your set isn't damaged during shipping, any problems with the set will be handled by LG in your home.

If it's a minor problem, and LG won't fix it, then you might be able to do a "change your mind" return. For online purchases, you have to rely on the seller's return policy. Time limit, shipping, and restocking fees.

Anybody know the "return" percentages for LG OLEDs? My guess is about 1 in 10,000, excepting "change of mind".

You are right. I think at times we overdo on our "change of mind" option. I understand one wants the best set for their investment and hoping to be blown away, in that case one should also be ready to pay the premium and not be concerned with looking for deals and overthinking on price tags at B&M stores. Define your budget, pick online or B&M and stick with pros and cons of each and don't mix one with the other. Your mind will never find peace if you keep going back and forth, and very likely that you will be the one who lands up with that faulty set. Murphy's Law.

Decent but not awesome. 65" C8 all time low was $1899 on BF, and the 77" has been $4700 numerous times.

I would personally be reluctant to drop 5k on an OLED given the burn in issues but everyone's financial situation is different. For 2k, I'm willing to accept I'm probably going to have a TV with a 5 year lifespan before burn in creeps up. The Massdrop price is pretty good but if you do some hunting, you can probably save another $100. I had a quote this week at $2099. I can't comment on the 77 pricing since that's above my income bracket.

Thanks, i'm not in any rush to buy but i've been lurking here watching for a deal on an OLED for a few months now. Sub 2K is my sweet spot for a 65", but then I wondered if I would be mad I didn't get the 77".

I was ready to part with around 2K for a TV, and if I jumped on the 77" I would have to explain to my other half where the money went for the patio project we have in the spring budget. can't enjoy a TV of any size when you're dead...

I also lust after the 77", but in the end I just can't justify it. In my case, I have the luxury of adjusting my viewing distance, so I just moved my seating closer to the 65". Same exact experience as a larger set sitting further away

Lol. I lust after any OLED tv that I do not need to babysit for Burn In. I’m Sorry I missed the c8 deal at 1899.

You've mentioned burn in in two consecutive posts now. The latest panels are highly robust against burn in for all but EXTREME usage cases. I suggest you review the latest rting's report.

I will stop discussing burn in here but it’s relevant to pricing to me. It is interesting how people can have different takeaways from the same data. I am familiar with rtings research and have combed the burn in threads extensively and my conclusion is much different than yours. Currently close to 1/3 of owners of 2016 sets have reported burn in. As the 2017 and 2018 sets age, the numbers will increase significantly. There is no fix for burn in. The rtings tests confirm to me that BI will happen eventually. Whether one concludes these sets are “robust” against burn in is a matter of opinion. Rtings gives the 2018 sets a score of 1 for burn in risk. Seems pretty damning to me. I’m buying one anyway but I have no expectations that the set will get past 5 years of normal usage.

Its not just my takeaway, its the takeaway from rtings as well:

Agreed. Hence I am buying one anyway. But it has been a tough decision. It’s a lot of money and it requires some attention to viewing habits.

update 55" C8 purchase

55' C8 price was quoted to me over the phone, $1558. They have 200+ in stock, the same amount of B8 also, but cost less at $1425. I'm also told about six store returns, some boxes may be rough shape, but the units are inspected by their techs prior to be "listed" at a mark down. Full 1 yr warranty, they have been in biz for 40 yrs, LG authorized. No taxes to my state, free shipping by Fed Ex.

Email today : ( If its Fedex they will most likely double box it ) . We shall see.

Per request ... I have 3 pics from their shipping office, to compare upon its delivery - the box looks perfect. If any issues come up, to contact them immediately. I expect no surprises. In the past decade I bought 4 KURO, my dads B6, then my B6 last July - no surprises from any of those deliveries.

My price for the "returned" 55" C8 is $1402. Citi Simplicity told me about a 5% cash back on any purchase up too $100 total for the month. I'll get $70 cash back, my final price will be $1332. Since this is listed as B Grade on the receipt ..... I doubt that I will be able to compare it to another lower listing online for a Cash Rewind from CITI (?) CITI will also extend the factory warranty 2 additional years. We have had ZERO issues with our B6 models.

On my B6 - I got a $370 rewind for a $1100 price. Now the limit is $200 .

This forum is a helpful source, thanks to all who share info.

I had it delivered to my Fed Ex store, due to my work hours. Fed Ex dbl boxed for shipping, a slightly larger generic box over the LG box, additional paper padding within also. I unpacked the outer box at the store, the LG box inside looked fine. I loaded it up, drove home. I had watched 2 youtube unpacking videos ....... I unboxed the stand, assembled and then attached the panel. There was an "inspected by technician, dated JAN 9" label on the outer box (open box store return this is) .... the build date was JULY '18.

Registered, updated 3 applications for steaming, applied the David Katzmaier basic settings for the C8 model.

Looks terrifc !!!

And CITI will apply the 5% cash back on my next billing (verified). The 55" C8 from WaltsTV cost me $1331.90

The "burn in" issue is greatly EXAGGERATED. You almost have to abuse your watching habits. The OLED has a superior color/contrast to my KRP 500M, wonderful PQ. Best of luck with your OLED purchases.

I am Not. getting this price. 1999 is best I am seeing.

Edit. Got it. Sadly I’m getting charged with Tax. That makes is 6 dollars more than the massdrop price of 1899 to me.

It's a Google thing, I bet if you call BuyDig tomorrow and mention the price they will match it or maybe even beat it.

FYI the end is near for beating the tax man. A recent Supreme Court ruling has many states forcing sellers to collect tax, even from out of state. Here's buygdig on the subject:

Quote:
Buydig.com is required to charge sales tax in various states after a recent Supreme Court ruling which triggered new legislation. The states that have passed new legislation have different effective dates for compliance. No sales tax will be charged for shipments to states that have a future effective date or have not yet issued legislation. For states that sales tax is not being collected, a Use Tax may still be applicable to a resident of such state that purchased merchandise from outside the state.

I wonder if the $176 generated by the promo code is from BuyDig or Google? Regardless I jumped on the OLED55E8PUA.

I should have never gone to Best Buy. I walked in there today to check out the 55" B8, and walked out thinking about springing for the 65".

Even though their website still says they are $1500 and $2300, respectively, at the store (Boston) they were listed at $1400 and $2000. The employee says deals start each Sunday and last the week. So the price could go up after tomorrow. But does that make any sense? The price going up leading up to the Super Bowl?

I am tempted to use the BuyDig promo, but I could also sign up for the BB credit card for the same effective price (1800+tax). I'll probably go with that so I can replace any defective units more easily.

Do you think 1800 is the best deal on the 65" B8 we will get for a while? Or is there usually one last price drop before the Super Bowl (or maybe right before the next year's models come out)?

Will probably go lower eventually but how much is the question and is it worth it to wait.

Someone here mentioned this week was the LG SB sale and next week (assume this follows your Sunday - Saturday logic) is Sony SB Sale. I was going to go over there today to see if they have any SB "secret" deals on the C8 or E8. I don't mind the B8 but would buy the C8 for 200 more if it's 2200...
