You don't look for show runners on a series that has wrapped shooting for the season and has been cancelled. If CBS stops looking, then the cancellation notice isn't far behind.

All opinions expressed (unless otherwise noted) are the posters and NOT the posters employers. The poster in NO WAY is/will speak for his employers. "Arguing with an engineer is like mud wrestling with a pig. After a couple of hours, you realize the pig likes it"

And if you announce you are looking for new show runners you would think they would say that's for the renewal.

I got a feeling tehy want to find show runners, get their ideas on what to do with the show and then they will decide if they keep it or not.

Also have to see what Selleck does in reaction to who they hire. If he walks the show falls apart.

CBS Renews 'CSI: NY', Cancels 'Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior'
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - May 17th, 2011

...Bunch of useless words in this context removed for clarity...

P.S. For those who who keep asking about The Good Wife, it is not in danger. Neither is Blue Bloods.

Ed Zuckerman To Run CBS' 'Blue Bloods'
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - May 17th, 2011

Law & Order veteran Ed Zuckerman, who most recently ran ABC's legal drama The Whole Truth last season, has been tapped as the new showrunner on CBS' Blue Bloods, which has not been officially renewed but is coming back next season.

Zuckerman will succeed the series' creators Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green who have exited at the end of this season. Zuckerman's strong procedural background (he spent 14 years on Law & Order and also worked on JAG and L&O: Criminal Intent) confirms CBS' desire to take the cop/family drama in a more procedural direction next season.

If they get away from the "family" aspect of the show, it's a mistake IMHO.

Agreed. That's what puts it above and beyond the average CBS procedural.

Straight procedural is a big mistake and will hurt the ratings. The family bonds is what makes the show stand out.

Me three! Unlike too many cop shows that use tired, predictable family situations as relief from the real drama, Blue Bloods' family dynamic is an integral part of the story. I really like the scenes at the Reagan's family Sunday dinners. They unfailingly work and advance the story.

I totally agree. While Friday's show had some silliness to it with the ending, the family bond going after the people that killed one of their own was well done.

I also was thinking the kidnapped girl was a setup of some kind until the second incident. She'll be a nice addition to show as long as they don't screw it up.

2011 Upfront Notes
CBS Adds Three Dramas, Two Sitcoms for Fall
By Brian Stelter, The New York Times' 'Media Decoder' Blog - May 18th, 2011

From a position of strength, CBS is adding three dramas and two new sitcoms to its prime time schedule in the fall, and is moving several of its established franchises to new time slots.

Among the surprises: the sitcom “Rules of Engagement” is moving to Saturdays, the first time in many seasons that a scripted show has been scheduled on that night; and “The Good Wife” is moving to Sundays.

The network is adding one sitcom to its popular line-up of Monday night comedies. The sitcom, “2 Broke Girls,” will be shown at 8:30 p.m, leading out of “How I Met Your Mother” and leading into “Two and a Half Men.” As was announced last week, Ashton Kutcher will be replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men.

Referring to the casting change, the CBS entertainment chief Nina Tassler told reporters, “I think it brings Monday night back into its full form.”

On Tuesdays CBS will feature two returning shows, “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and one new drama, “Unforgettable.”

Wednesday is the only weeknight without a new series. All three editions of “CSI” are back for another season, but the original “CSI” is moving from Thursday nights to Wednesdays at 10 p.m., following “Survivor” and “Criminal Minds.” “No matter what the other guys throw at us, we have stability every hour here,” said Kelly Kahl, the scheduling chief for CBS.

Replacing “CSI” on Thursday nights is “Person of Interest,” a drama that CBS says tested better among sample audiences than any potential drama in the last 15 years. “To move ‘CSI’ out of that time period, you really had to have big guns, and we do,” Ms. Tassler said.

CBS calls “Person of Interest” a “crime thriller about a presumed dead former-CIA agent who teams up with a mysterious billionaire to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice.” It comes from J.J. Abrams of “Lost” and “Fringe” fame.

Leading into “Person of Interest” on Thursdays will be “The Big Bang Theory” and a new sitcom, “How To Be A Gentleman.” The drama “The Mentalist” will remain at 10 p.m.

On Fridays CBS will add the drama “The Gifted Man,” followed by “CSI: NY” and “Blue Bloods.”

On Saturdays “Rules of Engagement” will lead off the night at 8 p.m., followed by a repeat of an unnamed sitcom at 8:30 p.m. “We liked the idea of bringing something new to Saturday night. Are the expectations sky high? No. It’s Saturday night. But we have to try,” Mr. Kahl said.

“The Good Wife” will move to Sunday at 9 p.m., after “60 Minutes” and “The Amazing Race” and before “CSI: Miami.”

Ms. Tassler also announced that it had ordered two programs for the midseason: a new season of “Undercover Boss” and a drama called “The 2-2.”

Here is the fall schedule (new shows in bold):

foxeng -- Interesting report about CBS's fall lineup, thanks. Although I am relieved to know that Blue Bloods has been renewed I am still concerned that the network's suits might screw it up by turning it into just one more police procedural in a genre already populated by too much dreck. Person of Interest seems intriguing and I will definitely give it a try.

Interviewed Tom Selleck just a bit ago and learned some tidbits:

+ Don't worry about it becoming just another procedural. "Ain't gonna happen." His words. He went to lengths to say that he saw that pop up on the internet and has no idea where it came from. He said even the brass at CBS doesn't want to monkey with it.
+ Donnie Wahlberg actually eats everything during the dinner scenes, which take 8 hours to shoot and require many plates of food. The rest of the cast has hidden "spit buckets."
+ The cast really gets along. The guys are all "top notch" and Bridgette "besides being a babe, is a great actress."
+ His favorite cigars are Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Robustos. And, yes, I'm getting him a box as a thanks for the interview.

If anybody's interested, let me know and I'll post a link to the interview once it's up. As if you don't know where to find it, yourself

We should have the link up tomorrow morning on the station website. I'll post it here as soon as it's edited and up. I asked for requests simply because if it seems like I'm posting a link to drive traffic to a site I have an interest in, I'd have to suspend myself from AVS. And I hate when I do that.

I'm not sure if the showrunner was misquoted or what, but Selleck was adamant. And he already got a number of scripts tossed for being too procedural. And I have to believe him when it comes to CBS. Pulling the numbers the show does on Friday night just screams "don't touch it."

Walking the fine line between jaw-dropping and a plain ol' yawn.

Actually, "Criminal Minds" has been renewed. "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" was cancelled. Kirsten plays Penelope Garcia on both shows.

Don -- Thanks for the correction about Criminal Minds. I guess it's obvious that I am a fan, so your clarification came as a relief. I like Vangsness' character, Penelope Garcia, and Vangsness' performances, so I was really trying to be gentle when I described her as "well padded."

Amen! The CSI franchise is geriatric these days, maybe comatose. I haven't watched any of them since I became so sick of David Caruso's laughably over the top performances on CSI: Miami, I finally gave up on it. It's hard to remember from this remove that Caruso was the promising young actor who turned in great performance after great performance on NYPD Blue. It is now clear to me at least that where artistic merit is concerned, Caruso needed Bochco and Milch far more that they needed them.

Thanks Dr Don! Good stuff!

All opinions expressed (unless otherwise noted) are the posters and NOT the posters employers. The poster in NO WAY is/will speak for his employers. "Arguing with an engineer is like mud wrestling with a pig. After a couple of hours, you realize the pig likes it"
