There is one, but it's been buried I think (at least until more news on season 2 comes out).

HBO said they want the showrunners to do any prequel but the showrunners clearly stated they were done after this show ends. I guess someone else could step in and let the show material carry itself but I think the showrunners are a key to the success, look, feel, of this show every season.

Benioff and Weiss have done a great job but when you look up their previous credits, they don't really have anything else of significance on their resumes. Weiss has a real thin resume other than GoT, just an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia that he co-wrote with Benioff.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1888967/?ref_=ttfc_fc_wr2

Benioff has mostly written movie screenplays but never was a show runner before GoT. But he had written an Xmen movie and Troy, which has similar types of battle scene visuals and so forth:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1125275/?ref_=ttfc_fc_wr1

Maybe Benioff made contacts with people who knew how to stage battle scenes in Europe. You wouldn't expect the screenwriter to know how to deal with the operational details of staging such scenes or the logistics of hiring crews in several countries, including extras and so on.

Or maybe HBO hired people experienced in these areas.

So maybe HBO could find some talented screenwriters coming into their own to run a series. Though it might be unusual to entrust a mega budget to first-time show runners. It appears the Westworld show runners don't have experience with big budget, cinema-quality staging either.

I'd add Caprica. Maybe the worst of them all, at least for SciFi. Some here will differ but it was poorly done as a prequel to BSG and got canned quickly.

That's some good taste in adaptable fantasy!

I wanted to highlight these two and ask we now not get ahead of ourselves. Rothfuss is doing his best Martin impression, and I'm worried Sanderson may go all Robert Jordan on The Stormlight Archive. I loved Sanderson's diversion with superhero fiction, but now I want him to focus back on Stormlight.

Yeah, I didn't get 'Caprica'. Cool opportunity to show the underpinnings of the First Cylon War, but they opted for ponderous character development with characters we didn't care about, mob intrigue we didn't care about, etc. It's like they took everything about BSG that made it so great and.... did the exact opposite.

Watch out! Season 7's plot has apparently leaked and I've already had a spoiler cross my path via the headline of some stupid site! (Yes, they put a major headline in a header).

I advise you to turn off your Google Alerts for any GoT news lest you, too, have your day ruined by some random news article.

New teaser poster released and other images are beginning to drip out.

I've seen this poster elsewhere but am I the only person who can clearly see a dragon setting fire to two longships?

I see what might be a Dragon shadow/shape of some sort, but the first thing that popped into my mind when I looked at your post was "Fire and Ice" ..

I saw the fire/ice theme immediately but I cannot remember if the White Walkers got past the wall yet. Did they steal boats to sail around? So I think this is referring to either a dragon battle with them or another rival navy against Dany's army.

Are you prepared to watch a blowtorch very, very, slowly melt a block of ice to reveal a premiere date? Because this is actually happening live right now.

https://www.facebook.com/GameOfThron...type=2&theater

Crashed twice. Had to bring in a second blowtorch. Still no date reveal.

Thumbs up to the genius who came up with this idea!

Took well over an hour and multiple crashes to end that blowtorch stunt, but the reveal was ... 7/16

Season 7 will be the next to last season. Season 8 will be the final season. Also, there are fewer episodes in the last two seasons (compared to 10 eps per in previous seasons) but the episodes will each be longer so we should actually be getting about the same amount of content.

It's a stupidly expensive show and the creator hasn't published all the books in the series yet. So instead of waiting years for him to finish HBO are making their own ending.

Well they do have his outline and "planned finish" so they both should end up in the same place. It's the "in between" that will vary. I wouldn't be surprised to see a spinoff "in universe" they do have lots of stories and basic outlines that they could run with.

That is not actually fully correct. HBO is not making their own ending. They talked to George Martin and he laid out everything that is going to happen to the characters (major story arcs) so they are ending it the same way he wants the books to end and what he has envisioned.

Well sure, but they've said that ever since they ran out of source material and by all accounts are deviating so far from the source they are essentially just using the same characters and bad guys in the same world. Which is understandable, they cannot write a show on a few notes alone and have to keep filling in all the gaps to get there and make an entire series.

The final end result may be the same but I expect the journey there is a lot different. And that's if Martin doesn't change his mind writing after the show is written.

I just hope it's not going to resolve in 60 seconds with a green ghost army killing all the walkers like a giant vacuum cleaner.

I'm not going to talk about "The Books", however, I had planned on commenting on GRRM .. I have known Martin since he was hawking his material at a small table at Fantasy and Comic Conventions .. and, I can tell you this .. since he's collected the fat paychecks from HBO and then subsequently coughed out the famous "outline", he's had no real incentive to finish the series .. although he is writing, just not that .. as well, he has digressed back to the Convention / Travel / Bask in the Glow of his fans mode, which he promised to avoid in order to finish "The Books" ..

I don't blame the guy, fame is addictive, especially at his age .. I'm not going to be surprised if it ends up being another Robert Ludlum, etc, scenario
