They're giving us so many extras now, there won't be anything new on the Blu-ray discs when they come out.

so with GoT gone my 2 favorite (and smartest) shows on TV now are The Expanse and Dark (Netflix)...a lot of good stuff coming out in the next few months- April/May: GoT, June: Dark (Netflix), July: Stranger Things, August: Mindhunter...and October will bring the final season of Homeland

closest thing to GoT is probably The Expanse...based on a popular book series, a ton of characters, epic story

Agreed lots of other shows that are good/excellent coming back later this year, none have the same following however (sadly),

Final seasons of:
Mr Robot
Preacher
Legion

Are also coming up this year

The Last Kingdom season 4 (maybe, as it’s filming now)
Watchmen
His Dark Materials
Succession

And more than a few others.

There’s always Deleted scenes, “History of Westeros”, episode commentary, and other various behind the scenes/production extras that they save. Of course we will probably have the LoTR type releases of the the “never seen before” footage in the future as well.

Rewatching season 2, interesting how in episode 1 Rob sends his terms to the Lannister’s and it’s that the North be free. Him willing to “sacrifice” his sisters for that deal.

Oh yeah there will be. We'll be getting (hopefully) uncompressed audio in full Dolby Atmos, 4K and HDR. That's enough for me! (although I do love the extras usually packed in with the discs, so I hear ya)

No need to be “hopeful”. Preorder for the 4K Blu-Ray of this season has been up for some time now. 4K HDR (most likely DV) and Atmos are usually “base”. I would figure a completion to the history of Westeros animated series as well.

I started watching GoT (never seen it before, no spoils please), I am watching Season 1 4K HDR and it looks absolutely perfect on my 82Q90R.

However, I am on E7 and the other seasons have not been released in 4K HDR.

Should I just continue on with the Blu Ray or wait for 4K HDR?

Cheers

Agreed. While the blu-rays are excellent, I’d just wait for the entire series to be released on UHDBR at this point.

Pre-Orders for the BD set are being taken now .. so, if I had to guess, it should not be too far in the distant future before the 4K pre-orders ..

https://www.amazon.com/Game-Thrones-...0-63e34ee9dfd2

As I've stated previously, when I upgrade to the 4K, I will be anticipating the "Winterfell Deluxe Collectors Boxed Set / Packed in a Reproduction of the Winterfell Keep, 50 Disks, Remastered Directors Cut with 120 Minutes of Never Before Seen Footage and Many Hours of Behind the Scenes and Making Of Footage, A Limited Edition "Iron Throne" Paperweight, in addition to Randomly Inserted Actual Cast Used Paraphernalia Including the Chance to Get a Sliver of Valyrian Steel / Dragonglass, A Square of Fabric from a Cast Worn Costume, a Piece of Rubble from Kingslanding, and Other Assorted Only Available in this Set Items .. This looks like Blu Ray, not 4K UHD HDR no?

That is the blu-ray version of the complete series. Right now season 1 is available in UHDBR and season 8 has a preorder. They have not announced a full series release as of yet for UHDBR. I would “guess” before end of year we will get one though.

Yeah, I'm just guessing that the 4K set will be forthcoming soon after the BD set .. but, who really knows .. ?? Logic would indicate WarnerMedia would want to get it out there ASAP in order to fully capitalize on the popularity ..

The only uncompressed audio is via LPCM. Dolby and DTS have lossless audio encodes.

Looks like we may get some good deleted scenes with the physical disc release (if they include it).

Wow, missed a lot! Had to watch it on my MBP laptop screen via HBO Go web client last Sunday since the hotel did not have HBO - I figured it was a fitting end to one of the most disappointing final seasons in the history of TV

What was the general consensus here? Did everyone love the finale? Everyone excited for Star Wars??

I think it all depends on how long have they been working on redoing the rest of the series in 4K. Remastering 50-60 hours (there abouts) of show is not something done quickly. I’m thinking this year, but who knows.

That is true, but every encoded audio stream is uncompressed when decoded. The talk was about the compression on the media release.

Dolby Digital and DTS (not HD) are still subject to data compression even when they're decoded.

Dolby Digital and DTS by their very nature discard portions of the original audio, with the goal of lowering the bit rate from the original. That was the whole point of those two codecs. So they do compress the original data, and it's never restored to its original size.

I really enjoyed The Last Watch. The behind the scenes extras done for this show really add to how special it was when you compound what all of these people did for close to 10 years. All of these people (many it seems were just starting in the industry) made one of the greatest TV shows in history.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Last Watch. Incredible amount of hard work and dedication over
10 years. So many moving pieces...it's mind boggling how many different elements are
Pulled together to make the show.

I especially liked the brief showing of a script 'reading' from season 1. Some of the characters
Were so young.

It also liked how they followed the many roles of the one bearded extra who was affiliated with
The Starks. I guess he worked multiple seasons as an extra. I admired his pride and enthusiasm
For being a part of GofT. Heck, he would have probably done it for free!! Got a big kick out of that!

My wife has a first cousin in LA (he's middle aged) who has been cast in various movies (non-speaking)
For about 10 years until last year when his engineering job got him sent to Texas.
He was also very proud
Of the work he did and always spoke very enthusiastically about his bit parts...
AFTER the movie was released.
The last movie he was in that I remember was 'Gone Girl'.

Same here. I loved the actors' reactions during the first table read, especially Kit Harrington's when he learned that he killed Dany and the cheering when it was learned that it was Arya who killed the Night King. It was hilarious that the very engaging extra that the special focused on was doing GOT bus tours after the production wrapped up.
