I'm somewhat underwhelmed with this new half season or whatever it is. Vikings has been much better in the past.

Make me grow brainiac fingers, but with more hair!

There have been good moments but no small amount of so-so moments as well. Oh well, there were flaws before. Rollo was sometimes groan worthy.

I'm not sure where Lagartha is, and why she would leave unless it's another mental breakdown thing.

I think the whole Floki thing on what I believe to be Iceland is waste of time. That's not to say that historically the discovery and habitation could not be good yarn on its' own.

Ironically, their experience is about the opposite of the other Vikings who look to exploit the wealth of others, not that they, the raiders, have no other income but they do look for plunder often enough.

The Icelanders on the other hand are solely dependent on what they can extract from that often marginal land. One wonders how they avoided starvation. My guess is fishing and shell fish. If all else was unavailable, searching for clams, oysters, etc. would be a reliable option. At least I'm guessing it would.

Well he really did die on the battle field so it was nice to see they followed history.

^ I wasn't aware or that. I hadn't studied up on the Bishop.

Speaking of the Icelanders, I was reading that one reason settling Iceland became attrative was it became increasingly difficult to engage in profitable plunder of the British Isles such that new indjustry was needed. Also that walrus ivory was a commodity sought there for trade. Makes sense that they would seek some other sort of wealth as the land was not as fecund as their homelands.

They are not really treating Iceland as it was originally discovered/settled but even with that, I am not liking that story line that much. Such a small group, how would they really "settle" the island? Not that many people to populate it and such. So what everyone on that tribe should have learned is if you kill someone and bury them in the dirt, just pretend you had a vision, lead them to the body and say the gods gave you a vision. You will not then be a suspect.

I could hardly understand a word of what the Icelanders were saying in the last episode. I need to upgrade where I can get closed captions.

LOL, close captions are a must for this show. It's the only show I turn them on for.

Vikings to End With Season 6, Follow-Up Series in Development at History

The voyage is coming to an end for History’s Vikings...the cable network’s drama series will conclude after its previously announced sixth season— but there’s a twist...History is teaming with Vikings creator Michael Hirst once again to develop an offshoot of the series...the new project reportedly will “continue the Vikings saga,” but additional details are still fuzzy at this time...

My wife and I finally watched the last episode on DVR last night....I'm really disappointed We didn't see Floki once in the season finale. After all, they wasted 10 or more minutes per episode this season on showing the trials and tribulations of "Flokiville" (neither of us saw much point in that whole storyline)....and now we have no idea what really happened to him. If he indeed got buried alive after seeing the cross, it was a crappy way to tie up the story arc they wasted so much of the season on.

That was a bit odd. Dunno if they were implying that the gradual usurpation of the Norse Gods by Christianity was a lonely thing or what. Maybe they're going to get into some 'come to Jesus' moment next season. But seems to me that an event iike that would be hard to survive. One would think that the air inside that cave would get might hot and toxic in a hurry.

I liked last season all in all. I'd like it to go on another 10 years.

I'm up to Season 4, episode 4 .. 20 episodes for Season 4 & 5 seems excessive, I did not realize it would end up being such a time commitment .. it's, IMO, starting to get a bit less interesting .. still in it, so, we'll see ..

Is it still going? I had suspicions last season may have been the last, even though evil Ivar seemed to have escaped his just desserts. Floki's Grand Icelandic Adventure ended decidedly un-heroically. Everything seemed to have sort of wrapped up. Has it definitely been renewed?

Up to Season 5, Episode One .. whew .. the end is in sight .. kept expecting Ragnar Lothbrok to climb out of that Snake Pit after having subsisted on snake meat and rain water seepage .. I guess that's not happening ..

PBS's 'NOVA' just ran an episode on anthropologists' search for the history & remains of the "Great Heathen Army" in 9th Century England, especially Mercia. Really interesting stuff. Dovetailed nicely with this series and previous seasons' storylines regarding the Vikings' invasions of the British isles.

WOw, 20 episodes. That's going out with a bang. No mention of Floki in the trailer. Wouldn't surprise me if we find he survived the eruption. Would be unlikely in reality.

I thought the whole Floki story line was a waste of time anyway - like they wanted to keep Skarsgard in the show but couldn't figure out what to do with him. Though I'm still hoping he somehow meets Loki before the show ends...

20 episodes is like 2 standard cablenet seasons. Wonder why they're doing it this way?

Going to hang onto that cash cow and milk it for a while. Bound to be two 10 episode installments.

Probably is time to ease it out.

Found this vid on the cancellation of the series. Makes sense.

That led to this next vid. I don't often watch this sort of celebrity gossip stuff but, well, this is Vikings. I was particulary taken the footage of Maude Hirst - Floki's wife Helga - and her new avocation as yoga teacher. By gol, I may be finally inspired to get my yoga going again.

Polished it off last night .. I stayed engaged fairly well throughout .. it does get a bit repetitive as far as who is trying to conquer who and what alliances get formed .. after Ragnar died, I expected some drop in watchability, Travis Fimmel having done such a good job .. but, as the show progressed, I began to realize it was more the story of Lagertha, Floki and Bjorn Ironside ..

I'd about bet money Floki survives the volcano .. the finale of season 5 was maybe the most disappointing of the episodes in that it was just very predictable TV, with Ivar escaping in disguise ..

I'll be in for Season 6 when it comes out .. take out the Magic and the Dragons, and, dare I say it, "Vikings" may be the closest thing to "GoT" ..

Now, I can finally go back on the Thread and read others thoughts ..
