OH no! it was a good couple episodes but a great season? Far from it, one has to travel back to earlier ones like I been just doing the last couple of weeks, and see just how gradually the show sank, the last 2 being the weakest. Though season 5 being the worst no doubt. Let's hope no AA meetings, the previous seasons were peppered with "snap" meetings, which were the most boring stupid moments of the show.Well till Mickey shows up and tells some pedo jokes. The transformation of Bridget was beyond plausible, yeah she went from a frightened hostage girl in a basement to a chainsaw wielding bride in a matter of hours. Sure!!!! Naturally this was played for fun,[along with Smitty being a puss] but I wasn't buying it. It was way too cartoonish even for this show. Nonetheless it's still a good show will worth my time to tune in next year.

During last season, many were unhappy with the Abby Death storyline and Ray's spiral .. yet, that season set the overall tone for this season .. had Abby lived, I don't think we would be where we are at this point ..

This season was, IMO, the best season of "Ray Donovan" .. and the finale episode was a Tour de Force of excellent TV .. not a minute wasted .. it was pure lightning in a bottle .. and, the season just built up on a slow burn till that Finale ..

As well, it's rare I learn anything new, but the "throw a dead raccoon into the grave" bit was, er, interesting ..

Bridget has graduated from "Donovan In Training" to a full fledged Member .. that should make for some interesting bits next Season ..

The main take-a-way I had from this season was, it’s very, very difficult to escape your past .. which is what Ray attempted, all while remaining isolated from his family .. yet, something in him changed during the Bridget kidnapping .. Suddenly, he realized that escaping his family wasn’t the answer .. they need Ray and Ray needs them .. Abby’s death left them splintered .. now, they have found their way back to one another ..

Even Mickey, during his recitation, shows the Brothers he may not have been as bad as they paint him to be ..

It was a wonderful ending to a great season .. gruesome, macabre, poignant and entertaining as hell ..

"I was there .."

Lena's revenge for Justine just added icing to the tale ..

Yeah I get it you liked it, I have no problem with that I simply don't share your enthusiasm. Ray was practically sleep walked or getting beaten[zombie Ray] the entire season till the titular kidnapping, while the rest of the characters basically picked up the tab and the story and carried it on, the same thing was going down the last season. Like I've said I wished the show was going a different direction by not killing Abby to begin with. Don't know if Paula just had other obligations or the show runners always had Abby dead in their mind, while the former would be understandable and they had to go with this direction, but if this was always in the cards I simply disagree with it and wished they went a different direction. Having said that based on what we knew of these characters prior to season 5 nothing that followed was out of their "universe" in fact as you said it was the obvious mood the show was to be continued in SE6 and it did.
Any case i'll be back the next season.

Abby and the kids are unpopular among many viewers.

In any event, the best thing for Bridget is to minimize contact with the family.

I can see the kids being as such but Abby? Frankly Paula's performance was outstanding in this role, I would say the best overall , only Eddie Marsan and Jon Voight come close, though honestly I can't think of anybody being bad other than Devon Bagby [Conor].

Abby is always screeching at Ray.

However justified, it alienates some viewers.

WOW! Just watched the Season 7 opener via OnDemand. One of the best-ever Donovan episodes with many memorable moments--which, despite the New York locations, really does feel like the series when it was in its prime. Amazing to see the hilarious effect that the Alan Alda character's psychologist advice is having on Ray! Ray-ray actually beats the hell out of a guy while doing a protection/bodyguard job--then APOLOGIZES to the fellow!

New York City has turned out to be tons of trouble for the Donovan boys--but a real boon for fans of the show. Mickey got way too careless in disposing the murdered cop evidence, and that may be their ultimate undoing. But not to worry--it looks like Bridget may be picking up some essential skills that may eventually see her taking over the "family business."

After watching tonight's episode, I'm sure a lot of folks will be on the edge of their seats wondering whether or not we've seen the last of Mickey, but don't fret. That four-leaf clover so prominently featured in his scenes is a dead giveaway; it symbolizes "the Luck of the Irish," something that Donovans seen to have in abundance.

Here's hoping the rest of the season is as great as this episode.

LOL! The more that certain villains "need to be killed," the more "unkillable" it makes them!

Are there really supposed to be "details" of an episode discussed before it has actually aired? I mean on "real Showtime"?

You can watch it early all you want, but it's not fair to discuss the show details until West Coast has had a chance to see it... IIRC.

They're not going to kill Mickey or confine him to prison for long periods.

It's the shenanigans Mickey gets into which drives a lot of the plot.

It's almost perfect if he survives. Because there are no remains, the authorities may not have any reason to look for him.

But what are the odds that a gas tanker stalls right in front of the prison bus, leading to a fiery crash?

If they are going to make Ray this softer, gentler Ray I am going to be disappointed. I prefer the bad a** Ray that takes no crap. If he is just going to talk his way out of every situation I think that is going to be rather boring after a while.

Of course that will last a couple of episodes at most.

Last season, he had to recover from the suicide attempt, get back in shape.

In fact some guy kicked his ass.

Previews show Bridget kicking in doors, all 110 pounds of her. Bunchy hitting someone too. No way Ray stays out of the action.

But he probably does need to change, because he’s been self-destructive. He knows this which is why he is going to see Hawkeye.

The fans will never accept him changing though, just as fans complained after the first couple of seasons of The Sopranos that there weren’t enough whackings. Again, another criminal antihero who needed therapy but the viewers wanted action.

If Mick's alive he would be running faster than Usain Bolt and still wouldn't make it.

The explosion covered a huge radius of ground, but it's television la la land.

These are just my opinions.

We’ve seen this in the past. It only works for so long in his business. Of course we do have to have some type of character arc and this coming to grips with his problems is needed.

I intentionally let the first 3 episodes stack on the DVR .. started watching last night .. the opening montage was just excellent and had a real film noir look and feel to it .. a tribute to those Gangster movies of days long gone by ..

I would have to say that Mick has not yet reached the end of his 9 lives ..

And, Sandy Martin / Sandy Patrick added her usual bit of hilarity to the first episode ..

If Ray doesn't want to do this anymore and his partner left. What will become of this show? Is it just going to become Ray in retirement on a beach? Seems like an odd choice for them to go after all these years.
