The first half of this past episode was good even though it was more mucking around in the past. I liked seeing Barry being assertive and confident and they actually accomplished their mission of getting the supercharged fragment. But then, as par for the course, they spend all this effort and then can’t seal the deal and the bad guy gets away. Once they got the shard away from Cicada, Flash should have pummeled him into unconsciousness and put him in lock up. And they didn’t think what to do with the shard after getting it away from Cicada. Vibing it to outer space was a temporary solution and then they all stood around talking so that it boomeranged back to Cicada. SMH.

And the whole XS being blackmailed to do the bidding of another bad guy was predictable.

Elseworlds starts tonight! Sun-Wed, Dec 9-11, 2018.

Psyched? No. Plan to watch it? Yes, I'll probably time-shift (DVR) the three episodes and watch them on Wednesday.

For those who haven't seen the coming attractions because, like me, they record and watch later, possibly 3 weeks later, Elseworlds is a three-night Flash/Arrow/Supergirl crossover starting tonight and for the next two nights (Sunday-Tuesday, December 9-11, 2018).

My very humble setup:
Spoiler!

Oh man! Episode 1 of Elseworlds was so much fun. I wish they could keep this spirit the whole time. I hope the rest of the episodes are as much fun.

That was funny with the theme song. I forgot that Lois Lane was going to make an appearance. I’m sorry, but there’s something about Bitsie Tulloch that I just don’t like.

I loved the episode when Barry went into the past to gather the parts, found it pretty cool. And the first part of Elseworld was excellent, loved the reveal at the end. Pumped to see the character.

I feel a bit meh about the new Bat Woman character. I don't know what I was expecting, but the character's personality seemed a little bit flat. If not for the great costume, I would say she was forgettable. Maybe this crossover episode just can't take enough time to fully develop her, or maybe it's just the inherent issue of combining Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl, whose series each have a different tone, in these Elseworlds episodes. I'll still check out the new Bat Woman series when it airs in hopes we get a better sense of what she's about, her motivations, character, etc. Of course, the supporting cast can make a difference as well.

Well, they were testing her to see how viewers like her since they want to make another DC TV series.

They did? I didn't know that. I thought it was only for this crossover to test the character before committing a full series.

Did not like the Batwoman character, really bland and uninteresting and not acted all that well. Her "moves" while doing a little bit of fighting left a lot to be desired to.

This Superman character is really growing on me. At first I hated it, now I like how he plays him and acts. Although I hate how they keep saying how much stronger Supergirl is than Superman. I disagree with that and don't like but oh well, it is her show after all.

Aaannndd ... he's gone ...

I understand how they need to write Superman off the Supergirl series for chunks of time, but for a show that's been all about empowering female characters, it seemed odd that Superman's extended departure involves a shotgun marriage proposal to a noted female journalist, who is now expected to give up her career during the entire length of her pregnancy and for an indefinite period beyond to live in another solar system (or wherever Argo is). Obviously, Lois agreed to it, and it was probably necessary for her physical well-being (though I'm sure Brainy could've come up with something to safely dampen the growing fetus's powers). It's just an odd message to send for this show, relegating an important female character to Super Boy incubator.

But she also is not an important female character to the Supergirl show.

If it were the Superman show, then it wouldn't be happening. But it's the Supergirl show.

Rumor is The CW is developing a series based on the Superman character from Supergirl.

Good to know. Like he is for you, Tyler Hoeclin as Superman is starting to grow on me as well. Though as someone else posted below, not a fan of the actress playing Lois, but maybe for the series they can switch her out.

The Superman+Lois 'ship has always bothered me. Larry Niven's article "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" describes some of the physical problems. See http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html

Finally caught up on episodes 2& 3. All the self-referential humor was fun.

With all the power of the book, Deegan sure didn’t think big at all. Even on his second try. And so what was the whole deal with Monitor? I thought he was trying to find the right heroes to defeat some big bad that was still to come.

I noticed a couple of Easter eggs and probably missed a ton more. When they were in Kate Kane’s (Bruce Wayne’s) office, someone picked up a bust of Shakespeare. That was used in the ‘60s Batman series to gain access to the BatCave. Also, the light blue dress that Lois Lane was wearing at the end looked like the one that LL was wearing when she went flying with Superman in the Christopher Reeve movie (this one might be a stretch but it was definitely reminiscent).

Also Alex seems to have the curse of bad hairstyles no matter which Earth she’s from. That wig was awful.

Who said she's giving up her career? Lois is now the Daily Planet's new foreign correspondent in Argo.

So... they had been developing this meta-cure to use on Cicada... for several episodes now, even though they eventually made a pact to not use it on anyone without permission... then this episode... and they properly got pissed at Barry for what he did... and I kept thinking, what the hell were they thinking was going to happen with Cicada? Were they planning on walking up to him and asking if he wanted to be cured? And then... comes the end of this week's episode... and dammit... that is their plan now. WTH? That makes zero sense. Cicada dude is going around killing metas... he won't be able to do that without powers... so he isn't likely to say "Sure, cure me up dudes!" And then what is their plan going to be?

I thought the whole point was that Cicada didn't even have powers... it was his knife that did, because this season's new thing was "meta tech".

Yes, it made zero sense that the cure was developed with the understanding that it would never be used by force, and this whole time Barry was going on about how they'd use it on Cicada, but nobody cared until he used it by force on King Shark. Sigh. At least Jesse Martin's back is feeling better now.

The whole idea is idiotic. So if they had an opportunity to "cure" Grodd, they would not without his permission...

He said in past episodes that the knife mark/stab wound on his chest was changing him, making him stronger, better, etc.

My finger lingered over the red delete series button tonight, I came real close to dumping this mess. Barry and his "Please mister bad guy, let me give you this potion then you wont be a bad guy.." and then "I'm a father too, be a good guy..." What dreck. How many people has he killed? Yet give him a chance? They don't seem to have an issue locking metas up, but they have to ask is they can cure them?

This show used to be a fun diversion with barely passable writing, not so anymore.
