‘Outlander’ Season 5 Premiere Will Get An Early Valentine’s Day Release For STARZ Subscribers

STARZ has a gift for Outlander fans who were planning on spending Valentine’s Day evening with a tub of ice cream and the cats – the early release of the season five premiere. The episode will be available exclusively to STARZ subscribers only on the STARZ app and STARZ On Demand.

The announcement was made by Outlander stars Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Sophie Skelton (Brianna Randall) and Richard Rankin (Roger Wakefield) during the Outlander season five premiere event via a Facebook Live stream of the red carpet at the Hollywood Palladium.

A countdown to the announcement using a large hourglass was revealed on the carpet, effectively letting fans “travel through time” with the early release of the premiere episode at midnight on Valentine’s Day.

The time travel romance will have its linear premiere on Sunday, February 16 at 8 PM ET /PT on STARZ, airing each episode week-to-week.

Season Five of Outlander finds the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie must find a way to defend all that he has created in America, and to protect those who look to him for leadership and protection – while hiding his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons, the man whom Governor William Tryon has ordered him to hunt down and kill.
With her family together at last, Claire Fraser must use her modern medical knowledge and foresight to prevent them from being ripped apart once again. However, while focusing on protecting others, she risks losing sight of what it means to protect herself.

Meanwhile, Brianna Fraser and Roger MacKenzie have been reunited, but the spectre of Stephen Bonnet still haunts them. Roger strives to find his place – as well as Jamie’s respect – in this new and dangerous time. The Frasers must come together, navigating the many perils that they foresee – and those they can’t.

The “Outlander” television series, executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, Andy Harries and Jim Kohlberg, is inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series that sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide

Outlander is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures and Story Mining & Supply Company, in association with Sony Pictures Television. Starz has renewed the “Outlander” series through its sixth season.

My daughter was at the premiere last night (front row seats). She works in the Entertainment PR industry in LA and was fortunate enough to score some tickets. Here's one of her pictures from the event.

Yes, very much so. Her and a friend were staring at "Roger" at one point when someone else was talking and he then looked straight at the two of them and made eye contact and mouthed "Why are you staring at me?" She said the three of them shared a good laugh.

She's a huge fan of the books and has actually met Diane Galbaldon a few times and has every one of her books signed by her.

That is so awesome she was able to have that experience being such a fan. She will not forget that for a long time.

I watched the Valentines Day early release last night .. if my memory serves, the episode was a bit of a departure from the book, "The Fiery Cross" .. I read it probably 15 years ago ..

It was, still, a good setup for what, hopefully, will be a good season .. although, I will say, the book was my least favorite of the series ..

I didn't like it either. In fact, it was the last one I read because I had grown tired of the characters.

BTW, I ended up signing up for the Starz Streaming and got a deal for $20 for the first six months and then $7.99 after that (billed 6 months at a time). I thought that was too good to pass up. I haven't watched the premiere episode yet, but will probably get to it tomorrow night.

I enjoyed the premiere and I am looking forward to the rest of the season. The redoing of the opening sequence scenes is great to see every season. The opening theme being redone was a great touch as well.

Does anyone know what year it is supposed to be?

According to my wife this was a "nice" season opener. What does that mean? I've learned not to question the little things.

I assume so because at one point I heard her say, "There he is!" I assume that is what she meant, unless they showed something else.

Rarely do they improve a show's theme song or opening montage when they tweak it in subsequent seasons. Seems like, more often than not, they usually get it right the first time.

This is a show that begs for the opening to be updated as the story develops. Using the opening from the first season would severely date it.

Right. The original had a nice feel to in the first half, and then it kicked into something truly inspirational.

My wife hates the changes to the opening song, she use to listen to it each season but now she fast forwards through it.

Well, the Frasers do seem to be thriving financially ..

I am not a proponent of Tar & Feathering ..

Will Roger be singing in every episode .. ??

I think Marsali and Claire will make a good team ..

The penicillin sub-plot is a good one ..

Overall, a nice setup for some season plotlines ..

has Diana Gabaldon been hanging out with George RR Martin?...seems like the last 5 books in the Outlander series have had 4-5 year gaps...and her last book (Book 8) came out in 2014...

I keep forgetting to post this...

Based upon the info mentioned in episode 2, the year, at that point, is 1772.

Roger is not dead.

The writers were not paying attention. In the 2nd episode, as noted above, the numbers given resulted in the year being 1772. But, in the latest episode, they give an on-screen year as 1771. Oops.
