I think that Cobblepot is turning into a better Joker than I've seen anyone else do (including Ledger). So Penguin will keep me watching. It should also be noted that it's more violent than most TV shows with an 8 PM timeslot. Certainly a bit bloodier than any live-action Bat-movie. I'm in.

last episode, there is a reference to the Dollmaker, maybe he is the Joker.

In the Mentalist, they did not reveal the identity of Red John, until the end.
It kept me guessing for a lot of episodes.
Maybe they will keep hiding Joker. I will stick to this show.

This show probably isn't that smart. Isn't the Joker just going to be the guy in the comedy club telling jokes to Mooney in the first episode?

The Penguin part keeps reminding me of the T-Bag character from Prison Break. Seems like pure evil.

I for one am just stunned at the PQ of this show. The restaurant scene with the mob guy from Monday's episode was blu ray quality. Well done Fox.

I came here to say the same thing.....I love the cameras/filters they are using and how they have edited it. Its the first show I can say I am glad I watched it on my projector instead of tv to see all the up close details. I watched that and it was almost like a fog was added when I watched big bang theory after Gotham..makes other HD shows look pretty bad, I am hoping Walking Dead does not disappoint with their PQ. I will be watching Sleep hollow next week as my brother will be on it so it will be interesting to see that show compared to Gotham (both fox big budget) as I have not see that one yet to know what its like.

I agree that Jada Pinkett Smith's performances in Gotham have been so atrocious, your "unbelievably bad acting" epithet may have understated the case. It seems to me, however, that the rest of the performances so far have never been less than adequate and sometimes outstanding, Carol Kane as the Penguin's mother and Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock come immediately to mind. Do you have a problem with their performances too?

For crying out loud guys, this is comic book material! There isn't any acting other than chomping up the scenery. This isn't Hamlet. Are you really going to critique the acting on this show?

I don't get the hate for Mrs. Smith. She's been fine. The roll calls for her to chew the scenery and she's been chewing it well, IMO.

I know bad acting.
Bad acting is no friend of mine.
And my friends, Jada is not acting badly.

I hear you guys but watching Pinkett Smith chewing up everything in sight sets my teeth on edge. Sorry, but there it is. I agree, though, that everybody else in the show's large ensemble cast has been just fine.

Keep in mind that all this is subjective. What is great acting for one person might not be so for another. I can't empathize with one character in this show. I generally don't like cop shows. That's probably part of the reason.

Carol Kane's acting was outrageously hammy. To say that Kane acted well and Smith acted badly is so far off the charts of any objective evaluation methodology I can think of. We don't know what the director is asking his/her actors to do. All we know that in a comic book show like this, the good guys act stoic and the bad guys ham it up over the top. The periphery women simply fret and fret without any good place to go. Its the nature of the beast.

You have a point. Despite how much I like the show's darkness, it has been coming perilously close to turning into just another police procedural. SVU: Gotham?

To me, the critical difference in Kane and Pinkett Smith is that Kane is a genuinely funny woman. In stark contrast, Pinkett Smith doesn't have a funny bone in her body. Thus, when Kane eats the scenery, she makes me laugh. Not to overstate the case, when Pinkett Smith's acting goes over the top, she never makes me laugh.

Despite my cordial detestation of Pinkett Smith's cringeworthy performances, I have liked just about everything else about the show and look forward to seeing more.

You guys do not know bad acting, go see Plan 9 From Outer Space or Killer Klowns From Space. The 'reality' shows have some really bad acting.

I have enjoyed it so far - per an NPR review I heard today today it seems to mix the darkness of the 'Dark Knight' movies with the campiness of the Tim Burton movies.

I also thought 'Joker' in the pilot when we saw the guy in the comedy club telling jokes.

Fish seems fine - she is playing a comic book villain for goodness sake....

Surprised this show only has a similar number pages as the truly appalling 'Scorpion' - yikes!

Good times for comic book fans with the Flash starting tonight and Arrow returning tomorrow.

Does anyone else want to FF through pretty much all of the Bruce and Alfred scenes? It's almost like they're throwing the kid in there because they have to but right now it's such a waste.

Ha! Reminds me of when my daughter used to scrub through the Lionel and Lex scenes in the earlier Smallville episodes; they were a bit cringe-worthy. Until Lex threw him out the window, that is. Anyway, Alfred is the only character I don't really care for at this point.

"I knew you'd say that"...*BLAM!*

I think the timeline should have started later in Bruce's life. Unless they do a time jump, there's no Batman relief in sight. At least in Smallville you could see the evolution of the hero, instead of a child being asked to eat their dinner.

I agree, I've been through the three episodes and I find it very enjoyable (I have to watch it on VOD, though, since I'm committed to recording BBT and DWTS on my two tuners). I agree that the Alfred/Bruce arc is pretty boring, but I'm willing to give it time to develop.

I also think the show's a riot, at least in spots, in particular Bullock and Gordon's boss (the female) is very good and has some stellar lines.

Yes, but baby Bruce is their token character to say, "See? It's a show about Batman! See?" I doubt he will become an important character for many seasons, if ever. Gordon is the main character, and jumping forward to when Bruce is old enough to become Batman would force major casting changes, which isn't going to happen.

In the new episode Gordon in one scene used a modern cell phone. I thought the show is set in the 1980's?

Visual wise this show looks great, feature film quality.
