Probably so, but would the Rebellion really want a pilot like Pastor? My money is on the Dark Side. :-)

Mercedes Wins!!!

I don't know what I was looking at, but I thought the race started at 8 EST. I usually record it, but watched it live this time.

"I just want to curl up in the fetal position." - Nico Rosberg

Once again poor strategy screws Mercedes. They should have pitted Nico three or four laps after Kimi and put him back on soft tires. IIRC he would have had to make up about ten seconds, but that should have been no problem for him.

The only reason I can surmise that Vettel didn't pass Bottas was the new nose cone. My guess is that he just didn't have any grip when he got close and just couldn't make the pass. Before the fanboys get up in arms, there was nothing wrong with Bottas's position when Vettel almost ran into the back of him for an attempted pass.

What happened to Crashdor? Did he break his car entering pit lane? That Crashdor, always finding new ways to destroy a car. I guess it keeps the team on their toes.

Red Bull can't complain about Renault. Dan's engine didn't give out till the finish.

McLaren, always a bridesmaid never a bride. Maybe when they get back to Europe, Honda will get them into the points.

Good race.
Another few laps and Raikkonen may have won.
Too bad Vettel went wide, damaged his wing and then couldn't get past Bottas. Could've used the constructors points. Hell, who knows, might've been Vettal and Raikkonen on the podium if not for that.

Never would have happened. Keeping everything the same and extending the race three to five laps, Mercedes would have pitted one more time. While Kimi was good on soft tires, probably Nico and definitely Lewis would have passed him.

Merc's stupid strategy was to hope that when Kimi caught Nico that he would not have enough time to pass. Really dumb when Kimi was catching him at what two seconds a lap with fourteen to go and only down something like eighteen seconds. I had to laugh when they showed the Merc guy on the pit wall when Nico went wide. Yeah buddy you screwed the pooch.

I watched that battle fairly close.

Seb did give his best to get past.
You could see the Ferrari had greater downforce, as Vettel would close in the corners, but the Williams would get off the turns more quickly.
Bottas is a very cool customer and no average driver.

We know Honda is keeping the engine turned down for reliability sake.
The Good News is the car is getting faster.

Despite another weekend of domination by Mercedes and Hamilton, I thought this week's race was pretty interesting. There was a lot of wheel to wheel racing and passing, neither of which we see a lot of on many race days.

Like the TV guys, when Nico got out of shape and went wide in a turn, which allowed Räikkönen to pass him and ultimately place second, I thought that Nico had screwed the pooch -- again. Imagine my surprise when it turned out the problem was the result of a brake issue.

Riccardo may not be pleased with his 6th place finish but he came within a whisker of being a DNF. He should be counting his blessings.

@oink

You are probably correct on the Seb/Bottas fight. I think it is safe to say that Bottas is over his injury to start the season.

Has VW (the main brand) ever been in any top level motorsport? Audi has been the closest, but that isn't the VW brand.

Even if Honda turns it up a notch, where is that notch? Will they be competing with the rest of the mid-pack teams or will they be able to challenge Williams and Ferrari? I have been thinking of buying a used Honda Odyssey for work. If I did then I wouldn't know who to root for.

Sure there was. Raikkonen had better tires and Hamilton was having braking problems.

Good to finally see Kimi on the podium in a red car. He and Vettel did well on the start to wind up 2 and 3 after the first turn, and if Seb hadnt screwed up by going too wide he might have had a podium too.

Seb admitted it was his fault, he blew it on that turn. I thought Nico had done the same thing but it turned out to be brakes. Lewis almost had a brake problem, but apparently he did "something" as he put it to negate that for the last few laps, i dont know if that meant he changed a setting in the car or just was easier on his brakes.

Ricciardo, wow, talk about blowing your engine at the right time!! How often do you blow up just before the finish line and are able to coast thru without losing a single place. Renault apparently has a bunch of work to do, but could be more of a factor in awhile when they get their piston problem worked out.

Fernando gets 11th, close, but no points. I just cant get used to him back so far after rooting hard for him in the Ferrari these last few years.

Now its what, like 3 weeks until the next race? I hate these long stretches with no races.

never take life seriously

Some interesting comments from Bernie:

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula1/...ampaign=buffer

Bernie leaves, and VW Group enters F1? Deal! But with which brand? Audi and Porsche are both in WEC. How about two teams in F1? Works for me.

No more hybrid nonsense? Yes, please.

But he obviously has no nostalgia for the old guard races. He will just keep going around the globe looking for third world crap holes that will pay his fees to be seen on the world stage. At some point, all we will have left, I am afraid, will be the movie Grand Prix

Sorry for the poor editing.
After watching the F1 race (Yeah Kimi), I watched the BTCC race at Brands Hatch. Thanks for the tip to it being shown on TV. Three great races (24 laps each). Close racing with cars easily identified (Honda, VW, Audi, BMW, Chevrolet).
Next week is Donnington Park. Try it.

It was the other Rossi named Valentino.
That was a fantastic race watching Rossi chase down Marquez and pass him. MM was taught a lesson that race just like Max Biaggi, Sete Gibernau, Casey Stoner, and Jorge Lorenzo. Love him or hate him Rossi at 36 years old is defintely on a mission to win the championship this year.

It was plain and simple that he was trying to "bully" Rossi when he bumped him while Valentino was setting up for the turn. He had bumped him just before he fell coming out of the right hander. The thing is Rossi was faster and Marquez knew it by the fact he had been caught. His crew with the pit board was advising him the whole race. The smart rider would have just held on and took the second place points, now he has none.
