Just as a small reminder, discussion of episodes 3 and 4 should be spoiler tagged gotta be careful since they haven't aired yet.

THIS.

I thought the first 2 episodes were a little slow.

Had a little problem with our "acting XO" disobeying the Cap's orders by sending the deleted communique to HQ...or his unilaterally deciding to flush his fellow crewmates' bonuses as a bonding exercise.

And, no, I don't know why The Punisher's recent hair loss made him look an egghead to me...definitely keep the hat, Tom.
I also find Shohreh Aghdashloo (U.N. deputy undersecretary) tough to accept in any role other than a Madame very much past her prime.
I know....these are a personal biases (be sure to send copies of all lawsuits to my attorney, please).

For a TV show, the SFX looked good to me.

All in all, it has the potential to be part of the rotation in my pen.
Will give it some more time and see if it can sink its hooks into my tough old porcine hide.

This is kind of my felling also. Great Special effects and interesting overall story arc, but boring sub plots, questionable dialogue and acting. Why does the one lead XO look like he is about to cry all the time? Why can't they fix the smoke damage to the Indian woman's voice? Will give it a few more episodes, but I would much rather be watching a BSG or T:SCC reboot or something new with aliens, robots, spaceships and laser beams.

During the first episode I was wondering why I was watching it. They threw in so many things to shock the viewer (zero-g sex, amputation, torture, etc) that I thought they were trying too hard. I thought the second episode was better. I've requested the next two On Demand on my DVR and do plan to watch those.

Holden thought he was doing the right thing by undeleting the SOS, but that ended up killing most of the crew and endangering Ceres. He is probably going to go on a major guilt trip. Of course, then being in the situation in episode 2 that he needs an SOS call to be listened to adds another element to the situation.

He reminds me too much of Jay Baruchel to like him at all. I actually kind of agree with the crew member that said the female crew member should be captain. She's actually got it together and gets things done.

You folks are spot on with all of my observations and concerns.

But, hey, I still like it. The shipboard mechanics and zero-G operations are well done, and I like that there is no sound in vacuum, unless it is in a comms system.

Watched E02 & E03 last night with a bottle of old vine zin and a nice spicy pizza.

I started over & watched the first episode, but with the closed captioning on which helped. It was a relief because I was trying to understand everything but the CC sometime indicated some of the dialog was in a foreign language. IOW not meant to be understood. Anyway I did enjoy the episode after watching the whole thing.

That being said, I find a lot of programs have difficult to understand dialog. I know my hearing is not the best, but a lot of friends & family also say it's sometimes difficult to understand dialog.

Will watch episode 2 later.

I found a repeat helpful as well. I picked up the tweaks to the language and the hand signals so wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. A quick trip to the Wikipedia details this a bit more. It was reminiscent of Dune on some levels.

Let's see - in the few episodes we've been able to see we know he's been dishonorably discharged from military service, seen ~50 of his friends and his home and his girlfriend blown up in a nuclear explosion, and then he had to fight for survival in a ship torn apart by debris while stranded in space. Wouldn't YOU look like you're crying a little? What, you want a stoic, blank-faced hero who can get through everything with a laugh?

Seems like he's dealing with some serious sh*t and a little bit of sadness or apprehension is appropriate.

I believe it was intentionally done. He mentioned doing it on GoT. Similar to the classmate in grade school, that tells on you to gain points with the teacher perhaps?

Well in that book reading mannerisms and such was a big deal and even made a small showing in the film. Similarly that ability is out front in The Expanse. The dialect, cadence, and hand signs of the rift folk were on display from the start enough for me to fire up subtitles to see if I missed anything.

Hmmmm, I hadn't noticed anything along the levels of the non-verbal communication found in the Dune novels in this show....
I'll look closer in the upcoming episodes...

Don't I know it. Suffered through some (often) poorly written Bitten episodes just to watch her.

Did you know she's a 2nd degree black belt in karate? So tough, too.

They sort of aired it, but on video on demand (VoD) like on Time Warner Cable (TWC)'s. I'm watching #3 right now. Maybe #4 tomorrow night.
