I watched on cable through cox in Dolby D on a 46" Sony Bravia in all its glory at 720p with help from a Darbee Vision DVP-4000 at 70% intensity from 8 feet away with a bias light set at 50% brightness. What a show! Next TV will be the new 55" OLED LG TV (now that's what I call a worthy upgrade). Glad I held out on buying a new TV😁

Didn't sound that way to me. But, looking at the waveform for the LFE channel, something just didn't seem right, so I did a FFT on it and discovered that it was a full frequency range audio channel (out to 19 kHz). That is incorrect. The LFE should only be a few hundred Hz wide.

What is a Classe SSP-800 and why would it do that, considering the vocals were in the left and right channels?

The Classe SSP-800 is a high-end Surround Sound Processor (multichannel preamp). ...Goggle it.

The audio PCM data was lacking something for DD5.1 on the game OTA here at least . I was able to decode Dolby Pro Logic from the 2.0 analog signal as an alternative .

Question: This Super Bowl will be remembered mostly as?
...The victory, the lost, the call, the entertainment, the juggling with the ball, the assistant coach, the head-coach, the two blue sharks, ...what?
...The medium used to view it?

$ 4,000,000. ad buys for a 30 second commercial spot! We used to pay $1M for that before I retired and then we started ad buys after the game instead and got very good ROI's.. now everybody else is doing that so it's probably getting pricey after the game by now also especially if the post game scheduled programming typically gets good ratings.

Super Bowl 49

I have two panny plasmas, a 54" and a 60", the 54 is connected cox cable the 60" is OTA. The difference in PQ between the two were quite revealing with the OTA being the winner with greater depth and that "almost you are there " look. The sound was better as well with a better balance of bass then the cable connected set. I listened to both sets with the volume muted and my small radio tuned to the radio broadcast rather then through my AVR's just to check/compare
any latency issues. The OTA signal was almost spot on with the radio
broadcast whereas the cable broadcast had a 1-3 second delay between the radio and cable picture.

It was by far not a scientific test, but both sets have been dialed in using Joe Kanes Video Essentials, on bluray via two OPPO's bdp103's. Neither sets have been professionally calibrated, yet as the 60" set is fairly new and has not reached the 100 hour mark. Each set is connected to a Darbee Darblet Cobalt, i think thats the model, but in each case the Darbee was toggeled off for the comparisons.

I also felt that the audio was lacking, especially during the half time show.

Great game though (especially for DW since she is a Patriots fan).

Cheers for this.

I watched via NFL Game Pass (in the UK, using Overplay Smart DNS), which I believe is 720p 4500kbps 30fps H.264.

I normally watch the SB via OTA unless on NBC.......if it comes in.

My local NBC is great when it works. It happened to be cloudy on Sunday night so it came in great. The PQ with OTA is very good.

I just miss not having dvr when i want to see a play again.

I did watch a blackhawks v kings game on nbc streaming and found it to be rather poor even on my 24" PC monitor.

Wife was watching something else so i watched the game on PC and it was a solid 5 minutes behind and the high quality pic would jump in and out.

I think streaming video has potential - its just not there yet.

Main Home Theater 110" Xbox 360 configured as MCE.
Living Room - HD Home Run Extend 2, connected to an indoor OTA antenna. Xbox 360 MCE.

Depending on quality, I may just stream the game from nbc.com depending on my antenna feed. (I can just connect my laptop to my receiver via HDMI).

GO HAWKS!!!!
Good game. I can tell you there weren't very many Pats fans that were convinced they could pull it out.

I am absolutely SHOCKED, that there have been no posts by people that turned off the game because the PQ wasn't up to their standards.

Usually every year there is some "Silly Nanny" that comes on a thread like this and state they only watched the 1st quarter and then HAD to turn it off because of inferior picture quality, they will usually then state they either listened to the rest of the game on AM radio, or went into another room and read a book.

Do these people still post here? I miss being able to mock them at this time of year......

It was a good game with some quite amazing few moments. ...That's what football is all about; moments in time in full capture; no computers, just footballers.

If this is the Blu-ray of the game, maybe they will watch the game in about a month.

Edited to add:

From comments here, it appears that disc is the season highlights for the winning team, NOT the game itself.

My very humble setup:
Spoiler!

I thought the PQ on FIOS was excellent. For a football broadcast I thought it was about as good as it gets. Often the PQ is a complete hit and miss during the season, with mostly crappy SQ.

But it's not the game.. It's basically the story and highlights of the Patriots 2014 season.

To anyone interested in a Google Chromebox or Chromebook..
Be aware that these boxes run a variant of Linux and DO NOT support HDCP!!!
This means no support for HD on most streaming services. I wish I would have known this beforehand....

NFL doesn't release full games, that would be some sort of season retrospective for the Patriots

NFL Ch. last night re-played the Super Bowl again. The sad thing is they compressed the picture on the sides and I think the bottom, and it really marginalized the picture quality. They have already been doing it for their commercials. What are they thinking? Makes no sense as their video quality when live looks good. The Ch. has become pretty much un-watchable, with their smiling fake hosts. Very weak...

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the game, darn it. Does anyone have it recorded via NBC OTA that would be able to burn it to a data disc? I would be willing to pay a small fee to cover disc & shipping costs.

Thanks,

Interesting thread. If I would have watched the game it would have been OTA but I was working, I occasionally got glimpses of the game from folks I was working with that were streaming it. I get perfect HD digital reception with my old SD rabbit ears, crazy.

The wild variations in PQ are appalling and interesting, local stations are dependent on who ever is in charge and if they put price over quality then unfortunately a lot of folks get low quality. There are wide variations in quality on my local stations, I've complained at times about PQ or AQ and the first thing that happens is denial, sometimes later I've gotten an apology and an explanation, other times problems are magically fixed. It helps to send a complaint. I'm not sure if a switching/routing problem is just very common or if they just blame ever problem on switching/routing ("it was a bad motivator").

Cheers,
