Sometimes I still find it hard to let go of the 80s Superman costume. Everytime I see these dark colours I think of the evil Superman.

Though, I guess hollywood doesn't like bright colours anymore. I always saw the bright colours as the American superhero. Yeah, I know spandex isn't practical nowadays but how can anyone not love those colours.

Though, I can understand why they're revamping Supergirl. I had honestly forgotten about the film as it has been so long since I've seen it. Then seeing some snippets on Youtube… Horribly cheesy. I can't get over the guy from Die Hard was in it. Hart Brochner…

The theme is quite cheesy as well. I could have sworn it was better than this.

The Superboy TV series theme was very motivating.

I think the new costume is nice. Stylish in an understated way, with tastefully muted hues. Nice texture and looks warm enough for a brisk autumn evening. Or perhaps a coolish spring evening sitting in an outdoor cafe, sipping an espresso drink.

I certainly like the look much better than those awful molded plastic outfits or the ones that resemble suits of armor.

Remember, the outfit is not what counts.
What really matters is the script. And I hope that downplays the special effects and instead emphasizes deep interpersonal relationships.

I'm not especially optimistic that this will succeed since it's on network tv, but let's give it a chance before we condemn it. Those press photos are really bad, but maybe it'll look better in action. As someone mentioned, the couple of still photos from Flash made his costume look like a baggy mess, but in the show it works. Hopefully, the show is really not going to CSI: Krypton where she solves human crimes/problems and just uses her powers secretly to get out of jams.

I guess I'm still miffed at the way an excessive use of CGI just ruined thirtysomething.

Seriously, though, what is the target audience for this new "Supergirl" show?
Teenage boys? Teenage boys don't have any money to spend, so why would advertisers be interested in the show?

I thought the same thing. I understand why they used a diff Arrow. They also wanted to separate what they were doing from Smallville. I don't understand why they are making the suit so dark tho. They should have used the old colors on the new suit. Its possible because the the lawsuit that was going on with the Shuster and Siegel, they had to change things. Like no S on the back of the cape,no S curl on Superman's hair,no red briefs.. I think they wanted to get away from the red briefs, but the whole blue suit looks kind of tacky to me. I like the classic look much better. There are things about Arrow and Flash I would like better also. But the writers and directors of the new shows I think are deviating from cannon on purpose. I just don't like the look of the new Supergirl at all. She's got droopy eyes and just straight up doesn't look the part. Is there a reason why these people have to stray from cannon? Are they just that eager to put their own spin on the character? IMO ,its never better. Man of Steel had too much action and not enough story/character evolvement. Supeman and lois kissing, already? That was like Anakin and Padme kissing, made no sense at the time.. The 1st time you saw Clark Kent turn into Superman in Superman the movie, that was a moment you will never forget and probably still sends chills down your spine every time you see it again. You got none of that in Man of Steel.. Sigh.. But I digress..

I find it quite interestingly strange Helen Slater was 20… Well maybe 18/19 when it was shot but 20 when released. Yet looks maybe 26/28 for the film. Melissa Benoist is 26 during filming but looks 19/20.

Too bad the clip skipped the moment where Clark found a phone booth, but it wasn't a full sized one, forcing him to use the revolving doors to change.

This is one of my favorite movies, but the cheesy crowd scenes were annoying.

That is easily one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. There still hasn't been a superhero moment captured on film as good. If I were writing the pilot for Supergirl, I would flip the roles and have Supergirl save a man like that in a homage to that scene.

I think the publicity department likes messing with fanboys, they know most will think this publicity shot is overly dark and have strong reactions. So when they lighten it by a shade or two in the pilot, people will accept it better.

The Richard Donner / Christopher Reeves Superman may be the best super hero movies ever. The new Nolanized superman is a killjoy. Somehow people get sucked into thinking dark = good. If they want to make a gritty and dark superman they should throw him into the middle east and have him say at the end you know what f### this sh** I can't help you.

this is on CBS? so now they're doing procedural dramas with superheroes? they must be running out of ideas.....you'd figure they would find another CSI, NCIS, or a Simon Baker show. Guess not.

Identical and bland crime procedurals are not only the CBS way but also the angle they are pitching for this show too. So expect crime-of-the-week being solved by an alien girl in nylons and a cape and probably quite a lot in just jeans and jacket.

I expect that's the reason for this throwback costume as well. Something too much of a departure from the old would be too radical and confusing to the CBS audience.

CBS and the CW are owned by the same parent company (actually 50% of The CW). So, a xover is possible.

Yes, CW is C (CBS) plus W ( as in Warner Bros., a subsidiary of Time Warner, which just happens to own DC Comics).

The CW was formed when it became clear that The WB and UPN could not survive.
The two struggling networks were merged into The CW.

Yep... CW is part owned by CBS and Warner... and the Supergirl show being a Warner production... there's no reason they couldn't come up with a crossover plan, because all parties are already involved in collaborative efforts already.

No! It's the law on the internet that TV shows must be condemned before they are shown.

TV non-science time! The amount of doubt benefit given is directly related to the quality of a networks previous output.

If it has a track record of original and exciting content it will receive a high percentage of doubt benefit.

If it has a track record of formulaic cookie-cutter shows with zero originality or style it will receive much less.

If this show were on FX, HBO or AMC etc. final judgment and sentencing would be reserved until the show has started.

But it isn't. It's on CBS. A network which has done nothing interesting in years.
