They've spent all their time working on their HD picture quality instead of their shows.

Dawn of Dumbness

They could do simultaneous crossover episodes requiring two TVs. Then continue it on The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow.

The use of the 1950's term "girl" to refer to a 24-year-old woman clearly shows who the target audience is. I know "Supergirl" comes from the comic books. But this is the 21st century. When I heard the title of this show, I assumed it would be set in a high school.

"I didn't travel 2,000 light years just to be an assistant." This may prove to be interesting.

I have this little nagging thought ... Hollywood tends to dog pile on to a winning genre until everyone is sated, and then that genre all but disappears for a decade. I hope it doesn't happen with superheroes.

I don't think CBS can get any older with their audience demos if they want to keep those ad dollars high. They seem to be making an effort to get younger demos with supergirl and a few other shows. CBS wants some of that teen magic not more of Clint Eastwood aged crowd.

Holy crap, that trailer seems more like a CW show than their own shows do now. Worse it feels like a CW show from the dark tween girl days of Dawn Ostroff. It's like CBS have skewed way too hard on the turn to get some younger viewers.

It also feels like I've just seen all the best parts too. Using powers for the first time? Check. Revealing identity? Check. Figuring out the hero outift? Check. Revealing the secret organization? Check.

You forgot the most important bit. They have also revealed all the sidekicks in on her secret.

Actually, I find all this very promising. I am TIRED, TIRED, TIRED of origin stories. It looks like they are going to get all that crap out of the way in the pilot rather than dragging it out for the entire first season. Maybe we can get something interesting without having to wait for the second season.

And I didn't see any sign of it being a police procedural, as was rumored. I'm glad they foisted that off onto Lucifer instead.

I think they made a major mistake with the voiceover. She said that 24 years ago she was sent to Earth. But, she wasn't an infant, she looked have been about 12, meaning that 12 years ago she was sent to Earth. Also, how long was the trip time?

Did I catch a mistake, besides the above, regarding Superman's blanket. Didn't Mrs. Kent use that material for his costume?

And apparently it becomes her cape. So maybe Supes got a new cape and decided to pass down his old one.

Not in the continuity of the current movie franchise, which this show seems to share.

Someone noticed that the Black Widow SNL parody is remarkably similar in tone and setting to the Supergirl trailer. You be the judge.

But it really is!

You aren't kidding. Wow! Watching this SNL parody made watch the "First Look" video for Supergirl posted above (which I hadn't yet). I only got through the first two minutes. Not sure if I can stomach a superhero show that plays like a stereotypical rom-com.

I am in the minority. I think it looks watchable with a different tone the rest of the hero stuff out there. We shall see.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Supergirl going head-to-head with Gotham on Monday nights next fall. And who would have thought the big TV match-up would end up being DC vs DC rather than DC vs Marvel?

Will people stick with a superhero show without superheroes or migrate to a superhero show with actual superheroes? I think Gotham needs to stop screwing around and jump the story forward about 10 years for season 2 and introduce a young Batman.

We need a Superhero Arms-race to push these shows to the next level!

I do too, but the ratings at some level still matter for show renewal. And, at least for me, Gotham is already pretty far down on my list. And based on the trailers, I can see the new shows Supergirl and Blindspot coming in higher on my list, at least until I've done a reasonable sampling.

It won't matter to ratings. CBS will get at least 8 million viewers with or without a superhero on either channel. Quality or content means nothing to a lot of the CBS audience. They will tune in to whatever follows a show they are watching.
