Sense8, Netflix Original Series from J. Michael Straczynski and The Wachowskis

One moment links 8 minds in disparate parts of the world, putting 8 strangers in each other's lives, each other's secrets, and in terrible danger.

But Hollywood always does the same thing and has no original ideas anymore.

I hope it's JMS's writing with the Ws' visuals, and not the other way around.

Just got the email from Netflix. This is going to be a busy summer for sci-fi/fantasy TV:

Sense8
Falling Skies
Wayward Pines
Defiance
Dark Matter
Killjoys
Mr. Robot
Humans

Plus a few others I don't watch like Dominion and Under the Dome ( that got renewed? seriously?)

Well, to be fair, it is on CBS. Their target audience probably started watching thinking it was a procedural about wisecracking cops chasing bald criminals, and then just stayed with it because they were napping.

I almost turned this off after the first 20 minutes ... just like I did for Cloud Atlas. If a show is going to gradually unveil some kind of mysterious supernatural premise, I wish it would at least establish a few ground rules first so everything that happens doesn't seem totally random, as in anything goes, "we're just making it up as we go along." I also found it a bit hard to connect with any of the characters stories, the way it kept jumping around. However, the ending of the first episode was interesting enough to at least force a viewing of number #2 .

I didn't rush to judge as fast but I agree. Cloud Atlas is tough to follow but amazing nonetheless. I got the same vibe here for S8 and I'm not sure how it will play out yet. I feel that so far it's not perfect for the binge watching crowd so will be skewered. I think I'm going to sip this one down with an episode every few days so I can digest it better. It's pretty dense material so far.

We didn't even make it through the first episode. It was getting late and we felt like it was dragging on and on about nothing. we'll probably finish it tonight but we felt like there's too many characters to really connect with any of them. Not to mention they all felt kinda cliche. Too bad, I had high hopes for this show.

One review claims the opposite, that this show is more conducive to binge watching "because no human would have the patience to watch it weekly." lol

For me, after watching the first episode of Sense8, all I wanted to do was get back to season 7 of Sons of Anarchy where I knew something interesting would be happening. With Marvel's Daredevil, I felt the opposite, I truly did want to binge watch even though it was slow at times.

Watched the first 3 episodes and while I have no idea where it's going, I'm in for the full dozen. It's weird and bizarre and I especially like how they've filmed all over the world and put scenes together while doing it. For example, in Ep 3
Spoiler!
the same for many of the other "Sense8" scenes. Technically it's quite an achievement and there have been a few articles that have discussed how the actors had to get used to doing a scene in one city and then much later finishing/extending it in another.

Some of the storylines seem slower to develop than others, but I think that is due to haveingso many and only I've seen the first 3 eps so far, no doubt they will all link up eventually.

Sure it's completely out there, and people say that the Wachowskis have lost their way, but this is what they do now, most will probably not like it, but some like myself(so far anyway) are enjoying it, because it is so out there.

(Another thing, this show reminded me that I've always wanted to try DMT but the situation never arose.)

Daredevil lent itself to binge watching more easily for sure. It has way less characters and an easier story to convey, which isn't a bad thing. Most cape shows are that way by design. SoA for me is pretty much Days of Our Lives with motorcycles.

I've said before, you can count on the Wachowskis to deliver something you've never seen before. You can also count on the internet to bitch about things giving them exactly what they complain about not having. It's one of the reasons I loved True Detective so much. The scifi comic fantasy LARP guys were really pissed when a tentacled monster didn't swallow up Carcosa.

As far as Netflix technical goes, I had to rewind/restart the first episode about 3 times to get the 1080p stream to come up, this was at around 9pm Pacific, but then it was full 1080p the rest of the way until starting the 3rd episode when the connection got dropped somehow, restarted the stream and it was 1080p start to finish. My ISP is Comcast and I was using a TiVo Roamio.

Well it does take a lot of bandwidth to psychically link 8 people around the world.

Yes, I thought TD ended as it should have, I didn't expect any more or any less, I was very satisfied with how it ended. You could be right that people say they want something but when it gets down to it what they really want is the same old, same old. Me, I starve for new and weird and crazy, push the envelope until it tears wide open, show me something I haven't seen before. Sense8 appears to be just that, so I'm in.

I watched and liked the first episode. I very much enjoyed the footage of the different cities especially scenes in San Francisco since I don't get there much anymore (only about 35 miles away as the crow flies). I've also been to Mumbai too but they didn't have that bridge back then.

Yes, the last scene of the title sequence appears to be the view from Twin Peaks looking towards downtown, and although I haven't been there in a million years I'm pretty sure that was Dolores Park in the scene where the two women meet their friends during the Pride festival.
