I went back and watched all the scenes with Mr Robot. The two males in fsociety never interact with him, never make eye contact. The muslim girl either, but she has less scenes.

I still don't want to believe he's a figment, or a personality. There is way too much evidence for him not being real. Which is why I think he is real. It can't be this easy.

I picked up the episode again and gave it another go.
It isn't working for me.

I'll check in with the thread after the season-ender and see whether there is a consensus if the journey was worth it.

Love the show. Fight Club, American Psycho, Risky Business, and War Games all rolled into one. Tyrell & his Swedish(?) wife are something else.

Then Elliot steps forward and calms things down. Also the entire time on the trip neither of the guys acknowledged Mr Robot even when I'm the truck.

We are meant to doubt our sanity and I think this episode was made to do just that. This show wants us to be confused so that we ignore the next step coming. The unbalanced nature of the narrator (Elliot) is coming out perfectly and making the viewer feel the same way. I believe he said more than a few times "you're not real" when discussing things.

I think this show is one that deserves multiple watchings. It is one where you'll go back and realize all of the clues that were right in front of us the entire time.

Angela is left at a crossroads where we can only guess that she will fall into fsociety to help her father. Does she fight it and try to resist or does she embrace "the darkness" for the "grater good".

Tyrell I have a feeling (and felt this way before) IS the Dark Army (or at least leading). He just happened to be there the same day as Elliot? Then we find out that they pulled out before everything was set. If he is TDA then it sets up not only a personal conflict between him and Elliot, but a virtual one as well.

This is basically where my head is as well. It's misdirection. The writer have to know that constantly having Mr. Robot in scenes where this is no interaction would be a dead giveaway to fans if it continues. So, how do you mix it up? You allow interaction with his character while still staying true to the concept (Elliot in those scenes is in the background). So, Mr. Robots interaction is nothing more than a red herring to the audience and a manifestation of which personality is dominant in Elliot at that time.

What would really muck this up is a scene in which both Mr. Robot and Elliot are fighting for dominance at a given moment and people seem to be interacting with them both. That is probably coming.....LOL.

Well, once again the USA channel decided to get people hooked in the first few episode on their site and Hulu but then require a login to your cable/sat provider for the remainder. Needless to say folks watching via Hulu let it be known they are not happy.

Darlene really needs to chill. She acts all bad ass and thinks she can take on the Chinese Dark Army just because she can program a RootKit and knows what a Raspberry Pi is. It was quite annoying.

Darlene is a True Believer, which means that her ardent idealism often overcomes her judgment. I wouldn't let her manage a donut shop.

Actually I think this show deserves use of hallucinogenic drugs before watching, same as the writers are taking when they do the eps. There's no other way to explain totally off-the-wall stuff like the bathroom conversation, or how Elliot talks his way past the first customer service rep.

It's one thing to be all consumed by her purpose, but her whole attitude that noone can touch her is annoying.

Are you very familiar with the social engineering part of hacking? It's one key element when deals of with corporate hacking. We often think people can't be "that stupid" but yet we get "surprised" everyday by how much more stupid people act. I've been through security evaluations where part of the evaluation was SE. Let's just say that it was much easier to gain access then it should have been (not me).

Sure, but there's engineering and then there's ridiculously unrealistic reactions to what people say. Put me in the latter camp.

You can't put yourself in their shoes however. It doesn't work. They targeted a "weak" point within the company and exploited that weakness. It happens all of the time. If you know the right buttons to push, almost everyone is vulnerable. I think you'd be surprised just how easy it is and while "set" for the show it's not very far off from reality (especially in the case of Bill). I've seen social engineering being done, so I didn't really have a problem with what they did there. It was tailored for this show, but really wasn't as crazy as it seems.

I don't know where I found the article (was it here?), but I read an interview with the technical consultant for the show. He has a computer hacking and law enforcement background and he says they try to make the hacking as realistic as possible but also have to take some shortcuts for the entertainment value. For instance, the ability root a phone and install malware and the brute force password cracking software are real, but they took liberties in time to keep the story moving forward.

But of course, it was a temporary diversion however. They thought the risk was worth it as they didn't have any other out at that time.

That only works on phones that don't have locked bootloaders. And as you mentioned, it takes WAY longer than 15 seconds to do so.

Which has always been true for any TV show or movie. You can't portray how everything is in real life because it would be boring for entertainment value. So every TV show and movie takes liberties. They always have and always will.

There wouldn't be an exact link between Elliot and the text message. Plus, he used a false name, so they wouldn't be able to track him down easily. The only person who knows his true identity is Tyrell, and he doesn't seem to care what Elliot is doing.
