I think FOX was suing so they weren't restricted on their cable network shows too but also go for the whole enchilada. Maybe they were planning for shows after 10PM if they could get it pushed through. Episode 7 of "Aquarius" definitely has an F-bomb in it as seen on Hulu+. S-bombs to my memory started appearing a couple years ago on the cable networks. Article here about how two versions of some scenes of "Aquarius" were shot since they have a deal with iTunes and Amazon and uncensored versions sell better Europe.

Watched the Pilot on Cox OD, no commercials. I liked it, I'm in. The main character was from The Pacific, and he continues to play an off beat character. Nice gams on Gloria Reuben.

Nice!! I just watched the first episode on xfinity on demand, free preview, commercial free. Never even saw anything about it. It was pretty good. I like Christian Slater too, should be a good series. But the plot seems non-believable. But hey they gotta make it interesting.

USA I thought WTF? They are stepping up their game now.

Enjoyed the episode as well. Even enjoyed Christian Slater in it. However....

The fact Christian Slater is in this series does not bode well for the longevity of the series. The last three shows that starred him ended up canceled in one season or thereabouts.

Someone mentioned they got an email from Netflix saying the series will be there this summer. To do that Netflix probably poured some money into it and got rights like they did previously with "Continuum."

Watched this morning on amazon. I give all non-procedurals a chance. At first the kid who I always find hard to watch was...hard to watch. Then as the story unfolds I got very interesting. It's different from what's on tv now. Glad it's on cable where it can live. I set it on the season pass.

I think I'm a bit burned out on "edgy." So many shows with flawed protagonists. We've seen personality disorders, alcoholism and even schizophrenia. But snorting morphine and ingesting "mollys,'' plus any of the above just seems like a case of can you top this. Can't we have somewhat sober paranoia?

I watched and really enjoyed. I have one problem though - I can't think of any of my friends and family that would remotely understand what is going on enough to "get" it. I'm an adult, and as such am familiar with adult language - I did not even notice the f word during the show. That is how seamlessly it was worked in.

One or two minor quibble with the writers explaining a term to the audience by having a character who would easily know what was being discussed have it explained to them.

That would make it CSI Cyber.

Would kill this show if they did the dumb down. The results of actions made it easy to follow even if you don't know the terms.

ROFL, I canceled that Season Pass after watching the first 10 minutes of the 1st Episode.
Also got bored with Scorpion and still have many unwatched Episodes, debating whether to finish or delete.

The FCC doesn't regulate cable content the same way since it's a paid service.

The only reason for avoiding excess profanity, sex, etc on cable is to appeal to prudish advertisers. It has nothing to do with the FCC.

Uh, that's what I meant by "whole enchilada". IOW, they wanted it applied to the broadcast shows. Don't you remember the news stories about it? They wanted more freedom after 10 PM even though broadcast wise they don't have shows at that time ... yet.

Christian Slater is the kiss of death to every tv show he's been on in the last 8-10 years.

But this time they're doing a similar thing (not same), and hoping for a different result.

The 1st episode was free-to-buy on Amazon recently - might still be...

They were also giving away season premiere episodes of Last Ship, Tyrant, Proof and maybe one or two others...

TV Notes (Cable)
USA renews 'Mr. Robot' for second season
By Bill Keveney, USA Today - Jun. 24, 2015

USA Network has given a big vote of confidence to Mr. Robot, renewing the new drama for a second season Wednesday just hours before its series premiere (10 p.m. ET/PT).

Mr. Robot stars Rami Malek (The Pacific) as Elliot, a young programmer who faces a major decision when the leader of an underground hacker group (Christian Slater, The Adderall Diaries) recruits him to destroy the company he is paid to protect.

USA says the pilot has been viewed nearly 3 million times on various digital platforms in advance of its TV premiere.

"We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail's provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that Mr. Robot is a stand-out series that is unlike anything currently on television," USA president Chris McCumber said in a statement. "The overwhelmingly positive fan reactions to the pilot and the broad sampling of it, reaffirms our confidence in the series, and we're excited to see where this timely drama will take us for Season Two."

The second season, which will include at least 10 episodes, will premiere in 2016.

Mr. Robot is produced Universal Cable Productions, a corporate cousin of USA.

I'm not upset about a renewal. At least I know it won't be a full season "wasted"

This is an interesting strategy, these early renewals. Knowing that more and more people are hesitant to commit to scripted dramas for fear of their cancellation, an early renewal assures viewers that they won't be left dangling by a canceled show at the end of its only season. It also creates an aura of success and forward momentum around a show whose status would otherwise remain uncertain.

Now I won't let the first season of this pile up on my DVR until I know whether it will live on. If that was USA's plan, it worked.

I really liked the first episode and unless it takes a nosedive I'm in for the duration. On another not, the actor Bruce Altman really does great job of playing the boss, Terry Colby. I'm adding him to my list of actors who can deliver believable authoritative characters. Also on that list is the late great Sydney Pollack, a producer, director and occasional actor.

Watched it last night, set the season to record halfway through. Between this and the BBCA Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell, I am going to have to put off suspending my DirecTV service for a while.

Glad but surprised to see that renewal notice before the show even officially aired.

It got a respectable 0.5 at 10PM - holding most of Suits' 0.6. Since it's renewed I'm also going to go ahead and jump in...

I think the big test will be the next episode. The premiere has been available for weeks via different methods legally. The next episode will be the 1st one that people haven't seen early.

I like the show. It reminded me a lot of Dexter without the killing and a deeper overall plot. Dexter seemed stuck at the look at a strange man do strange things and try not to be caught. There seems to be more meat on the bones from a back story. Or least they have aspirations for more.

Just watched - the spoken thoughts are so similar in tone and content that I think they must have deliberately copied Dexter.

I'd like to see something more original than the same old evil corporation cliche though - complete with the leaning Enron E to make sure we get it...

I watched the pilot episode today and thought it was sensational. Rami Malek's performance as Elliot Alderson, an antisocial genius computer programmer who is a hacker in his spare time, particularly impressed me. I also liked Bruce Altman's performance as the odious Terry Colby. Thought the way Elliot got even with Colby without getting mad was particularly gratifying. Now I wonder what the one percent of the one percent folks have in mind for Elliot. I am really looking forward to the rest of the season.

Rami Malek was excellent in that too!
