I don't know how well the show will eventually turn out but this pilot was fantastic stuff for what is a fairly uninspired take on Lucifer. Tom Ellis is perfect as the smarmy Devil.

This was a pleasant surprise, I liked it. The scenes with the psychiatrist were priceless. I realize it may fall apart in short order but until then I'm sticking with it.

Yikes another cop show. Is it possible to make an action show without the police element?

Sure. But nobody would watch. You think sex sells? Crime sells. Crime + sex really sells!

I take it back. Out of all the Fox genre shows that they turn into procedurals I think this may actually survive. The fantasy element is barely on display and out of all their recent SF&F cop shows this is the most cop-show-y of them all. Combined with a light touch of Fifty Shades of Housewife naughtiness.

I have to give Fox props too. Usually the Devil is portrayed as suave and slickly charming. I think this is the first version I've seen in which Luciifer is portrayed as mostly irritatingly childish and coming across as slightly gay at times. I can see that approach working on some men, but I found the women's fascination with him strangely out of place during some scenes.

One and done for me. Far too cop show-y for me and I've had my fill of Devil mythos on television. Especially when it's barely there. I'll stick with Second Chance as my Fox genre procedural for this year instead.

Tell 'Lucifer' Sponsors: No more sympathy for the devil!
By the staff | Tuesday, January 26, 2016 | onemillionmoms.com

FOX's new drama "Lucifer" is spiritually dangerous. The new program "Lucifer" glorifies Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh. The character Lucifer Morningstar makes being the devil look cool, drives a fancy car, gets out of a speeding ticket, owns a nightclub in LA, and is irresistible to women. "Lucifer" premiered January 25, 2016, at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT with a 14-DLSV rating.

The series focuses on Lucifer portrayed as a good guy "who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell." He resigns his throne, abandons his kingdom, and retires to Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping the LAPD punish criminals.

At the same time, God's emissary, the angel Amenadiel, has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld. Lucifer questions Amenadiel, "Do you think I'm the devil because I'm inherently evil or just because dear old Dad decided I was?" The question is meant to make people rethink assumptions about good and evil, including about God and Satan.

The premiere included graphic acts of violence, a nightclub featuring scantily-clad women, and a demon. The message of the show is clear. Lucifer is just misunderstood. He doesn't want to be a bad guy, it's God who is forcing him to play that role.

TAKE ACTION

Contact Olive Garden, who sponsored the spiritually dangerous program "Lucifer" and paid corporate dollars to promote their restaurants in association with the content of the program.

Use the information we have provided on our website, and let Olive Garden know that its advertising dollars are supporting sympathy towards the devil and glorifying Satan and that financial support should be pulled immediately.

Oh those folks. They really don't get out much do they? Another case of what the mass media doesn't tell them to dislike, they never even notice.

In the pantheon of TV devils that One Million Out of Touch Moms have not seen, this one ranks as my least favorite. Because I don't find him cool at all. Just a bit of of an annoying dick like the detective does. Pity they never got the chance to see Ray Wise, John Glover or Mark Pellegrino play him or they really would have problems, because I think they all portray Lucifer as more charming, cool and entertaining. Throw in Mark Sheppard too, because he does run Hell off and on so he's close enough.

Since they changed so much from the orignal material that would actually have been a good idea. It would have made the character dynamics more original at least.

Of course imagine the feedback if it was a female Lucifer sleeping with every man in town.

I, too, find the male character insufferable. He acts like a child who brags about how cool he is. This role calls for someone who is matured and mysterious. This moron isn't it.

They are trying to make a darker (much) Castle but the fun is not there and will never BE. The Devil being a good guy is just a WTF. There will be enough watchers that laugh at this it last a few years. But not me.

Darker? Now that is a WTF. This show is light and cheesy fare by any standard. Tonally it's barely any different to any of the other quirky buddy cop shows on television.

It's not the first time Lucifer has been shown to be on the side of the good guys either, it's just the first time his motivitaions have been reduced to something as bland as solving crimes.

Which is a good time to remind everyone before parts of this thread start vanishing, that one of the AVS Prime Directives is leave your religion at the door.

It doesn't matter what you personally believe, it only matters how well the context of the show universe works and how the characters work as fictional creations on a screen.

We might need a reminder in the Preacher thread too ...

It isn't so much "your religion" that needs to be checked "at the door," it's ANY discussion about Religion, Sex, or Politics.

You've been in the Supernatural thread so you know we've brought up religion(s) more than once. Religious deities, figures and stories are part of the mythology of the show. As long as we discuss it in that context I don't remember it ever got out of hand or resulted in any warnings.
