‘Lucifer’ Renewed For Season 3 By Fox

Fox has given an early Season 3 renewal to Lucifer ahead of the DC/Warner Bros. TV drama’s second-season return from hiatus on May 1. The order is for a full-season 22 episodes.

I finally caught up with the show and enjoyed it as usual. However I think the Winter finale (down under aspect) just wasn't well done. Somehow they could have scripted it better... perhaps more abstract.

‘Lucifer’ Season 3 To Be Supersized After 4 Season 2 Episodes Migrate To 2017-18
By Nellie Andreeva, Deadline.com - Mar. 23, 2017

Fox will bank the final four episodes from the current second season of comic book-inspired drama Lucifer for next season. The decision, made for scheduling reasons, does not impact the size of the recent Season 3 order for Lucifer, which remains for 22 newly produced episodes. I hear the four carryover episodes will be on top of that.

The Lucifer move was foreshadowed by Fox’s summer schedule and premiere dates announcement yesterday, which featured a two-hour So You Think You Can Dance airing on Mondays, starting June 12. Lucifer, which is returning with new episodes on May 1, will air five of its remaining 9 original episodes, with the season finale slated for May 29.

Lucifer‘s companion, Gotham, is returning a week earlier, on April 24. Its 22-episode third season currently runs through June 12. In light of SYTYCD‘s return that night and Lucifer‘s departure on May 29, Fox could use the extra hour on June 5 to wrap Gotham with a two-hour season finale. The network is yet to announce official plans for Gotham or Lucifer‘s season closers.

On Twitter, Lucifer executive producer Joe Henderson indicated that the series will end with a closure in Episode 18. ‏”We designed this season to be an 18 episode arc because we originally were going to be 18 episodes. But then we got 4 more! Surprise!,” he wrote. “So we decided to create four episodes that let us play around a bit. Dig deeper into the character stories, play with format a bit, etc.” The four episodes “stand on their own, but also pick up plots we’ve introduced and bring in new stuff we’ll play with season 3,” Henderson added.

As a 13-episode midseason entry in spring 2016, Lucifer received a 13-episode Season 2 order last May. While the producers may have envisioned a shorter run, in October, Lucifer got a Back 9 order for a full, 22-episode second season.

The series’ producers appear understanding and on board with the scheduling tweak. “Honestly, they love the show, they just didn’t have anywhere to air the extra episodes until the fall,” Henderson said.

So glad this is back. But I like Lucifer being Lucifer, the mean tough baddy with superhuman abilities. They seem to not show that to often now. I wish Lucifer had a long play that worked out and he got his way, etc. Plus, someone needs to get the Detective into a shower ASAP and really wash that hair good. Wow, she looked horrible.

Man, I don't know what to make of that trailer? Is this all playing out in Luci's mind? Has he been sent to his own version of hell? One thing I do know is I'm looking forward to it's return Oct. 2nd.

Dammit. We have big thunderstorms moving thru the area. Knocked out my satellite picture a couple times already. I have a funny feeling I won't be watching Lucifer tonight. Or I'll get the dreaded partial recording.

I didn't realize that Fox held over four episodes from last season until I captured today's sat feed. It has it as episode 219. There will be 5-6 more new episodes before Fox airs the final three from last season.

I hate it when networks pull that crap.

I suspect that Lucifer getting his wings back wasn't supposed to happen until episode 222. Re-editing was required to move that into 218. 219 is a standalone with no references to previous happenings.

The reporter guy was starting to wear thin with me. However the ending saved it and really tied it all together. Luci had some great quotes too. Now we need more Maze. Where's she been?

I felt the same way, I was thinking, man just kill him already and then near the end I thought oh great, another character introduced that knows Lucifer's secret. Then the very end shot made it worth everything. That was awesome and unexpected, I thought for sure we just saw the history of how he got there and they were going to do something else, not that it was his hell.

I agree with the comments above.

I was thinking this was a filler episode and was getting tired of it mid way through. Even though I still think this was a filler episode, the ending brought it home.

I was a little confused with Lucifer telling him that people can leave any time they want, but their guilt keeps them there. Did the ex-husband ever know that he was in hell or was it a sub-conscious thing?

I dont think they even know they are in hell, probably why nobody ever leaves.... We can be a really sadistic species sometimes...

The first two episodes of Season 3 were interesting; the next five have been weak buddy cop outings at best and lame "adventure" episodes at worst.

IMO the show needs to stop neglecting its strengths:
- an overarching Lucifer angle (e.g., the re-growing wings and lost devil face); and
- interesting secondary characters (Maze, Amenadiel, Linda) with decent story-lines.

I hope "Lucifer" gets back on track soon or I'll be writing it off.

I finally binge-watched all of this season's episodes (those aired so far) and the ones held over from last year. It was best to watch them in order, i.e., the ones held over before watching the ones from this season. Sticking the last season episodes into the current season storyline, was IMHO, a stupid move by the network. But, then again, it is Fox. Watching the current season without interruption made for better viewing. I'm ready for more episodes.

I am still watching and enjoying this show. Usually the crime of the week is not that great, but last night I thought they played it well.

Still unimpressed by the "buddy cop" crap that the writers have been churning out. And it's a freakin' sin what Amenadiel, Maze and the doctor have been reduced to.
