I definitely remember Cage, but Jones must be a newish character as I only first heard of her somewhere in the last several months.

Looks better than the initial premise but I think I'm seeing a trend with Netflix superhero productions. Shoot everything in shadow, avoid special effects, save money.

Krysten Ritter looks really good though. Nice to see out of her usual comedy carictures.

The only Netflix original I've seen was 'Daredevil', and those fight scenes were among the most well-lit and filmed I've seen in awhile. Few super-close-ups, shaky-cam and hyper-cuts, instead choosing to film them mostly with a stationary camera far enough back to showcase the outstanding choreography. There was a single-shot 4 or 5 minute fight scene in a corridor, in episode 4 I think, that was really spectacular. Reminded me of the one-take chase scene in the first season of 'True Detective' that won Cary Fukunaga an Emmy. Or maybe it was just a nomination. Whatever. It was really cool.

Half way through I still haven't finished Daredevil, but I don't remember any well lit fight scenes - or any scenes that didn't take place lit by dark shadow lights or at night. Even the corridor fight was dimly lit.

I want my superhero shows to have a bit of visual flair and otherworldliness, otherwise they become just another dark crime show with some occasional wire work. Apart from Vincent D'Onofrio's performance the general look and feel of Daredevil just being a typical vigilante hitting people hasn't registered as anything special. Just a competent crime show with a blind dude.

Same thing here with Jones. The trailer looks like a competent detective noir show with occasional moments of people being punched or jumping on wires and being mind controlled. At night or in half-lit rooms.

It may be better than I am imagining but I would rather go all-in on the weirdness and reality bending concepts than half-in. Because at that point you may as well just have a regular detective show without the distractions of forcing occasional superheroics into the story just because the Marvel brand comes with expectations.

I too am onboard for Jessica Jones. I like Krysten Ritter a lot and think this new show has a lot if potential. Read a complimentary piece about it earlier. It includes Official 'Trailer 1 and 2, both of which have been posted here.

I've watched 2 eps. Liking it so far. Waiting for my daughter to catch up to get back on the binge train.

I have watched the first four episodes and am enjoying the show. It is very noirish and noir appeals to me. Ritter has been terrific as the super-strong but alcoholic Jessica Jones. David Tenant has done a good job too as the thoroughly creepy Kilgrave. Am looking forward to more.

Just finished episode 3. Good acting, very good writing and directing.

Also, as I was watching, asked myself how long will the major networks last as Netflix continues to spin out great shows. And now I get to switch to The Man in the High Castle tomorrow.

The uniformly high quality of Netflix's original programming serves as a reminder of how stale and, often just plain bad, Big 4 network one hour dramas are. My son, who is as much a television buff as any of us, now has a policy of not watching any Big 4 network one hour shows. I haven't come to that yet but have been considering it.

That and the 22 episode seasons. Just no time for that anymore -- too much content flooding out of every network and streaming service, all of them ramping up the quality in an effort to get noticed. And they ain't making any more hours in the day to watch it all.

I've said it before and it bears repeating: There's never been a better time for a kid with talent to make his way to Hollywood. Got to be the lowest unemployment rate among performers in history. You just know the tinseltown restaurants are scrambling to find enough waiters these days.

What is the customary amount of time with a new series on Netflix? A few days?

AFAIK, there isn't an actual "rule" here at AVS regarding series from streaming services.
I was just making a suggestion.

IMO, using Spoiler Tags is hardly an inconvenience.
Of course, others may disagree.

There is a AVS rule about broadcast series: can't be discussed openly until it has been broadcast.
However, these streaming series that drop an entire season on a single day require a different approach.
In the AVS Movie section, we use Spoiler Quotes when discussing plot details.

I'm on ep 5. Daughter is on board. My wife was nearby and now she is a collateral casualty and is hooked. Still very good.

Originally designed as a 7 seat theater, and can go up to 10 if you want to get all cozy, but five seems to be optimal -- 3 seats up front, 2 on back riser. Still need to finish and hang 21 acoustic panels for the side walls to take care of first and secondary reflections. Got 28 folks coming next Saturday for "ThanksChristmas" feast, so want to be completely finished by then.

Treated front wall with 4" in-wall Triad Bronze L/C/R's. That's convoluted packing foam from ULine (cheap!) around the speakers and black suede wrapped fiberboard sheathing covering the rest of the wall to take care of bounce-back sound coming from the back wall and reflected off the back of the screen.

Falcon Horizon 120" 'scope ratio AT screen. Got a few wrinkles from shipping; need to take the fabric off and toss it in the dryer, steam cycle, for 20 minutes. Should take care of that.

Back wall - Klipsh S-10 surrounds & back surrounds and the JVC RS4810 projector. Anamorphic lens not shown because I busted the gearbox in the sled and am waiting on new motors (we actually talk that way down here in NASCAR country)

And finally.... Jessica! Watched first ep last night. Good stuff!
