Anyone else who would rather have closed captioning of the Irish vampire's dialog than Eugene's?

Can someone tell me why the town kingpin shot those people in his office. curious minds want to know. I thought he was compelled to do good for a change.

He was compelled to "do God's work" or something to that effect. I think the point being made was that those instructions are open to interpretation.

My closed captioning appears throughout the entire episode, whenever someone is speaking. I'm assuming you mean the show subtitles Eugene's dialog (which I don't notice since I have closed-captioning turned on) but not the Irish guy's... which is exactly why I use closed captioning for just about every show I watch, except news and sports.

Speaking of Seth Rogen, I don't know if this is another Sony publicity stunt but the local theater apparently showed a Red Band trailer of "Sausage Party" before a showing of "Finding Dory". I didn't even know that theater got Red Band trailers to show. It cause quite a stir and the story even wound up linked on Drudge.
http://www.eastbaytimes.com/concord/...e-finding-dory

I'll have to get the inside scoop on this because a friend's son manages that theater.

'Preacher' on AMC

This show is so weird and methodical to a fault. I don't mind weird but the series has thrown stuff in there with no context way to often. I don't want them to reveal everything but damn some better organic storytelling would be nice. I am in for now but damn!

I'm pretty sure they're pulling a Quentin Tarantino here. They're making each episode a little bit weirder than the prior seeing how far they can push it before people say, "This is crap!" instead of praising the genius mastermind.

I'm glad to hear a little dissension about this show. I've watched all the episodes and I don't really like it, it's almost boring to watch. I don't really understand what is going on and even worse is that most of the time I don't even care what is going on. I keep trying to figure out what I'm missing, most of the thread is nearly giddy about the show and it's the people that I'm usually in agreement over shows and I'm just scratching my head trying to figure out why everyone seems to like this show so much.

More is not necessarily better. It will be more money for the producers but a tougher job. I like fewer but richer episodes but US TV execs don't understand that.

They understand there is more commercial time to sell advertising against in more episodes.

Not if no one is watching because the episodes are half-baked. Besides there could be yet another series to fill that gap over the year that with fewer but top quality episodes that would keep eyes there.

However ad supported TV seems to be going the way of the dinosaur. TV execs have been crying for quite awhile that people have been skipping ads using their DVRs and now paying for "no ads" on streaming places like Hulu.

Are you reverent about watching commercials for things you would never buy just because they pay for the show you are watching?

There are alternatives to this tired way of ad supported TV that execs need to wake up to. They need be more creative (as if they have any creative abilities).

BTW, are you aware that they dropped a break on shows? The hour long shows now have 5 breaks instead of 6. It looks like most of the episodes have dropped the first break so the opening "act" is longer keeping the viewer invested.

Honestly if the show keeps up this pace it won't matter that it's 13 episodes. I will have checked out already.

Heck no, I don't watch commercials. I don't watch live TV. Everything I watch on cable is DVR'd. I take it so far as to actually edit them out of OTA TV so I don't even have to fast forward through them.

I like it, it is a little slow plodding, but Rogen and the other guy have started this comic book series "prior" to the events in the beginning of the comic book.

So the 2nd season on is supposed to follow more or less the comic book series and there should be more action and variety as they move on from Ratwater, if what I've read is correct.

I have not read any of the comic series and had not ever heard of this series before.

Stick with it at least through some of next season and hopefully things will get better or more to your liking.

How many episodes is this first season? My TiVo is showing a 7th episode on 7/10 but there's no episode description. I've been assuming it's only 6 episodes to this point, reinforced by the "rewatch the first 5" emails I've been getting, but now I'm wondering.

The moments that I enjoyed where when Eugene (Arseface) told the preacher he didn't like what he had done for him. It was the preacher's reply that was the revealing moment of his change. Something tells me this is going to end really bad. The other was the hurt on Cassidy's face when he put together whom Tulip was, and the bond between Tulip and Jessie.

Yes, lasts nights episode was great. The fight scene in the motel room was wildly imaginative and fun. I have to say I am glad "ass face" as described above, thats funny by the way, is gone. He is a hard dude to look at, and listen to as well. I am a bit surprised The Preacher did not show any distress when he realized what he had just wished upon him.

I wasn't quite sure what to make of this show at first. But about halfway through last night, I said to my wife "This is pure genius." She agreed.

This is the only show currently on TV that I make a point of watching as soon as it airs. I'm not saying it's a great show, but it definitely gives me that "I can't wait to see what happens next" feeling. It's always entertaining and rarely dull.

The twist at the end with Eugene surprised me, as did the Quincanon mass shooting last week. I have no idea where this show is going one week to the next, but I'm certainly enjoying the ride.

I thought the opening melee was outrageously funny. A fine primer on how you get the audience's attention.
